About this deal

Coconut water is a good option for a hydration drink as it’s rich in electrolytes and minerals according to the USDA. Our mission is to transmit you the knowledge, the motivation and all the tools you need to reach your health goals. We distinguish ourselves by having a multidisciplinary team of accredited health professionals to fulfill all your needs at once. As the author of this article, I wanted to try Prime myself in an athletic setting to give my take on its taste and effects. Calloway Cook is the President of Illuminate Labs and has reviewed over 1,000 clinical trials. Unlike the other flavours, Meta Moon has a white label and is a purple/dark magenta colour inside (Image: Corey Bedford/Leicester Mercury) It’s well-established in medical research that added sugar in excess is harmful to human health, and while it may help optimize performance for elite athletes, for the average person biking a few miles or lifting some weights on the weekend, we consider added sugar to have more cons than pros. A spokesperson for Veygo said: "Within this sought-after product are high levels of caffeine that many shoppers haven’t stopped to consider, especially how it could impact their driving. The recommended amount of caffeine is up to 400mg per day for healthy adults and up to 100mg for adolescents, which scientists now believe occurs until the age of 24. Meta Moon was okay, but other flavours such as Ice Pop and Blue Raspberry are meant to be nicer (Image: Zhara Simpson/PlymouthLive) The Veygo spokesperson added: “While most drivers understand the risks of alcohol intoxication and would never drive under the influence, caffeine can have a similar effect on driving ability, reactions and safety on the road if consumed in large quantities.Drinking it, I was tasked to see if it particularly improved my awareness and energy, or even just hydrated myself more than a glass of water, but I didn't notice any significant difference. I can see it being helpful if you finish a work-out or if you're hungover and looking to get some vitamins and minerals into your system, but that really depends on if you would be able to get it more easily in the future. This category of amino acid is used to support muscle recovery, but a meta-study on BCAAs published in the Nutrients journal shows that most clinical trials use a BCAA dose of at minimum 5,000 milligrams (mg).

Acesulfame potassium is another artificial sweetener in Prime, and it’s been found in clinical studies to have negative effects on the gut and negative effects on the brain.Calloway Cook is the President of Illuminate Labs and has reviewed over 1,000 clinical trials. See full bio., Co-author

This product provides a modest amount of sodium, potassium and magnesium (electrolytes), and contains 100 mg of caffeine for an energy boost during workouts. The drink itself is a purple or dark magenta colour, which is mostly hidden by the plastic label. Upon first opening the bottle, I got a sweet, fruity smell - nothing too specific to be able to tell what fruit flavours were used, but it was definitely artificial. We believe that Prime is healthier than Gatorade, because it has no added sugar and fewer potentially toxic ingredients like artificial food dye. The only ingredients in LMNT Unflavored are electrolytes: sodium, potassium and magnesium, making it a clean and simple formulation. What’s more, the average half-life of caffeine in the blood ranges from 1.5 to 9.5 hours. This means it can take most of the day for the level of caffeine in your blood to drop, making it difficult to know the exact amount of caffeine that can lead to overdose."N atural flavor is a broad categorical term that fails to describe the specific flavoring agents used. There are documented toxicity concerns related to some flavoring agents. Sucralose is an artificial sweetener shown t o negatively impact insulin function in healthy adults in a clinical trial published in the Nutrition Journal.

Overall we believe that Prime is a healthier option than Gatorade because it's free of added sugar and artificial food dye. Popular YouTube Takedown of Prime It’s also important to stress that drinks (of any kind) should not be consumed while driving as this impairs your concentration and control of the vehicle. If you’re thirsty, pull over somewhere safe before you take a sip.” As far as the effects of the drink, I did feel like it gave me more energy than drinking water alone, but that could be a placebo effect. It's fine, if you like that kind of thing, but it's nothing new or particularly ground-breaking. The flavour is good if you enjoy sweet, fruit-based drinks, but is it something I'm going to choose over Lucozade, Powerade, or Gatorade? Probably not.

Citric acid is a preservative and flavor enhancer typically manufactured from a fungus and shown in medical case reports to cause whole-body inflammation in some individuals. Prime also contains a number of added vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A and vitamin B12. We recommend avoiding "fortified" products with synthetic vitamins and mineral additives entirely unless otherwise instructed by a doctor. Illuminate Labs has a team of medical experts including doctors and Registered Dietitians who are assigned to review the accuracy of health claims and medical research summaries based on the relevancy of their expertise to the article topic. Most importantly, it's formulated with whole food ingredients like coconut water and himalayan pink mineral salt. There are no additive ingredients in this product that we consider questionable from a health perspective. By some minor miracle, I managed to grab myself a bottle of Meta Moon from Asda in Oadby (branded as 'candy fruit' flavoured) but Prime comes in a whole variety of flavours, including Ice Pop, Blue Raspberry, Tropical Punch, Orange, Grape, and Lemon Lime. With the amount of hype surrounding the drink - and the fact that people have literally fought over it - I thought I'd share my review of Prime Hydration.
