For example; levelling up characters and equipping different items that bolster your character’s abilities.

However, in Mice and Mystics, you roll the dice so often that it feels like the entire game depends on how those rolls land. Tail Link (Discard instead of battle action when another mouse shares your space to defeat a minion in that space. The encounter that the mice will face is based on which page space the hourglass marker is on when the encounter is triggered. Where as I wish that there would be more of ‘we have a plan how to sneak through those rat warrior guards, but something went wrong and we have solved it all together by making narratively exciting decisions! Until this mouse's next turn, all mice on the same space as this mouse count as 2 successes instead of 1 when defending.

Play as nimble Prince Collin and fence your way past your foes, or try Nez Bellows, the burly smith. All the players can really do is gather as much dice as possible, to increase their odds of getting a favorable roll. When moving out of water, the rulebook specifies that you must roll a die, and if you roll a "star", then you successfully move out of the water. That may involve too much random luck for some players, but my friend and I have found it adds great tension, especially when you just need one more wound to finish off that tricksy to kill spider.

Players follow a group of characters as they are transformed into mice (it is in the name of the game) and they then seek out to regain their human forms while also saving their kingdom in this medieval-fantasy setting. And, perhaps most importantly, you get to be a little mouse with a sword or a crossbow, which is pretty cool!
