About this deal

But Raker's investigations open him up to considerable danger as he gets involved with the workings of an organisation that will do anything to remain hidden. Chasing the Dead introduces David Raker, a grieving widower who, using the investigative skills honed in his former profession as a reporter, now finds missing people. During the investigation David bumped into much bigger mystery than just a disappearance and thereby put his life in acute danger. Joe Coen becomes David Raker and with clever writing from Tim Weaver, draws you in to the story and making you want more. Joe Schreiber was born in Michigan but spent his formative years in Alaska, Wyoming and northern California.

This was my first encounter with the writing of Joe Schreiber, and based on this book there will be more. The premise for the story is fairly straight forward - David Raker, ex journalist, has kind of fallen into the career of finding missing children.Initially it had the power to engross, but as the story went on it became a dire farce and totally ridiculous in its crafting. His novels have been selected for the Richard and Judy Book Club three times, and his work has been nominated for a National Book Award and the Ian Fleming Steel Dagger. I don't find him as endearing or likeable as other sleuths but his backstory (of course there are relationship issues embedded, as with every crime novel) was interesting. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The reader is then taken on a voyage of discovery as David Raker unearths clues (literally from the beach) and follows a trail that introduces us to numerous characters and places before the final showdown and the uncovering of the Calgary Project.

But when Emily Kane arrives at her sister Carrie's house, she finds the front door unlocked and no one inside. He is also the host and producer of the chart-topping Missing podcast and is currently developing an original TV series with the team behind Line of Duty .

But still, I found the second part of the book a bit too much: there were just TOO MANY life-threatening situations for one person in one book. MY THOUGHTS: Chasing the Dead by Tim Weaver is an excellent start to a series that I have been reading in a piecemeal manner. A year after the death of her son Alex, Mary Towne is convinced she's seen him alive - and she wants missing persons investigator David Raker to find him. Suffice to say there is a fanatical religious undertone to the proceedings and in the final pages a somewhat miraculous discovery about Alex Towne's family which I found somewhat unbelievable. And as you read that last page I hope you feel, much like I did, that last cold chill creep up your spine.

Having bought it I may try again in a few months but I still think it will hover around the pile to go to the village hall for others to try. I'd always liked the investigative parts of journalism, the dirty work, the digging, more than I had liked the writing. At some point though I started to worry that it would turn into a paranormal story, so weird it was!

Concludendo, non posso fare altro che consigliare questa lettura a tutti gli amanti del genere, sperando che il volume successivo venga pubblicato presto! I would recommend it to my thriller-reading friends who are willing to branch out into a bit of horror. Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Dead Tracks by Tim Weaver, read by Joe Coen, Hannah Arterton with Tim Weaver.

Der Held verliert sich in Allgemeinheiten, agiert farblos und kaum nachvollziehbar, aber trotzdem nicht unspannend. The final showdown is an unintelligible mess that left me rereading the pages multiple times, trying to visualize how the actions described actually occurred. In a mixture of snow, tears, and blood; Sue has to follow precise instructions given to her by the kidnapper if she ever wants to see her daughter alive again. The twists and subplots are what keep the book going and although at times it is a bit far fetched, he keeps the momentum going until you are gasping for breath.
