About this deal

Fitted to Tarmac SL6 Disc on Roval CLX32 rims with 21mm internals, the tyres measured up at exactly 32mm! In all, the AS TR is a success, effectively becoming Continental’s leading all-season road tyre, without markedly compromising overall performance versus its highly rated sibling. Conti says it is infused with Vectran Breaker liquid crystal polymers for puncture protection and tear resistance and there is also a Lazer Grip expanding profile structure designed for precise cornering and Active Comfort Technology for vibration absorption built into the rubber.

Lazer Grip: To make you one with the road, The lasered micro profile structure expands over the tire’s shoulder and provides outstanding cornering. We've had our suspicions of the existence of different specifications of the Black Chili compound for several years. In comparison to the first GP5000 Tubeless Ready version, the GP5000S TR is 20% faster rolling, 28% stronger in the sidewall and 50g lighter (25-622). For hookless rims, there is additional info regarding maximum inflation pressures, which are lower than for hook type rims. Let's hope that puncture-resistance and lifespan are not, and remain as excellent at they are in the 4000.

Continental Grand Prix 5000 AS TR details and specifications The tread pattern and compound are said to be more effective in wet weather. I've decided to switch the 32s to my hybrid and go for 28s on my roadie to help get a few more kph if I can. History tells us that the 'only' justified expensive tyre were ten year old matured hand crafted by Belgium hobbits in darkened caves tubulars at the 'pro-level'. Nevertheless, where the GP 4 Season tyre leans more towards a sturdy build, the AS TR would appear to favour speed and grip over sheer resilience. The ones that are expensive are the 28mm variety favoured by overweight cyclists - the 25s (and 23s) are reasonable.

they look pretty much the same as any other tyre and are every bit as aerodynamic, so the superlatives have to end there. Grand Prix 5000 AS TR is a new all-season GP5000, adding some extra protection, grip and longevity to the fast GP5000 road tyre lineup. Light, fast, and grippy, the GP5000 Clincher Tyre packs in Continental's latest technology for performance and comfort.Lover of long-distance cycling, Suvi is easily convinced to join any rides and events that cover over 100km, and ideally, plenty of cake and coffee stops.

Either way, it’s important to remember a supple casing can make as much difference to cornering confidence as the tread compound.I had no issues with the 32s, but I've killed 3 inner tubes trying to get the 28s on, and I'm not a rank amateur at tyre changes. However, true to their renowned reputation of continuous innovation, Continental has delivered an even lighter, faster tyre which offers more grip and puncture protection than any other to date. The tyre is available with cream sidewalls, or in the black version tested here complete with a low-profile ‘Black Reflex’ reflective band around the sides. Given dry conditions, the AS TR offered much the same level of suppleness and confidence as the S TR, which is probably thanks to Continental’s decision not to ‘compromise’ on the casing.
