BE WATER is a decorative lamp that transmits the sense of water, as reflected waves are projected onto a wall.

OK, so it might not be as simple as that, otherwise salt water lakes would be glowing all day every day! If you have the electricity to turn on a computer or a television, why would you need this weak lantern to light up your surroundings?Until recently, when a WaterLight was put in each household, the families couldn’t fish or make things anymore after dark.

Created in collaboration with the Colombian division of creative agency Wunderman Thompson, the project was designed as a stand-in for solar energy, which is often used to supply remote locations but which is weather-dependant. The inspiration to make WaterLight came from an indigenous tribe with a strong ancestral connection to the sea – the Colombian Wayuu community. Four chapters, four stages of life, four memories that re-emerge, for four are the essential elements that inspire the standard collection of BE WATER lamp: Water, Fire, Air and Earth.After the salt particles have evaporated, the lamp can be emptied and refilled while the used water can be repurposed for washing or cleaning. It has been prompted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) which showed 840 million people worldwide are currently without access to electricity. A bit of hydrogen gas is generated as a by-product of this reaction, but it escapes out the slits on the top.

Also not sure how many cells but I think this could also be made from a Zinc or Aluminum anode and Copper cathode cells and pvc pipe fittings as a 8th grade science project. I find inspiration in everyday life, many things inspire me in nature and the simplest things attract me.The lamp consists of a motor block unit, an anodized aluminum base support module with LED light source and one of cylindrical borosilicate glass with an irregular surface handmade, which makes each product different and unique. WaterLight works 24 hours a day through ionisation, which sees electrolytes in the saline liquid react with magnesium and copper plates on the interior of the lamp to produce electricity. While the device can charge a cell phone, the magnesium will be quickly used up and the device’s life will be greatly shortened if used for this purpose. At the same time, solar lanterns need to transform solar energy to alternative energy to charge batteries, and they only work if there is the sun.
