Mine looked different than most I’d seen — I didn’t quite realize how my texture would affect the way they came out. At times touching, quiet, triumphant, and laugh-out-loud funny, the stories of Wash Day Diaries pay a loving tribute to Black joy and the resilience of Black women. Rowser and Smith are an unbelievable creative force and this book proves that they're one to be reckoned with. in the end, cookie does make steps toward being there better for davene, but i wish davene received more recognition and concentrated care from the group. While I love all the stories, "Bright Side" and "La Bendicion" particularly touches my heart and soul.

I wanted to show that bubbly Cookie has this current trauma that she’s going through even though she seems like she’s very happy.

All four main characters were also such a joy to read, there were some moments that came up between characters that created tension, but they always figured it out as real friends do. I didn’t realize how solidly I was myself when I was back home until I got here and had to constantly explain my experiences.

It's also refreshing to see a group of female friends that don't fall out with eachother, or there's some other interpersonal drama, as tends to be the leading form in these kind of stories. Two months ago, I had an experience at a braiding salon that left me so frustrated that I almost shaved my head. Each chapter of this book shares parts of each character's life and what is going on for them socially and mentally. Each short story uses hair routines as a window into these four characters' everyday lives and how they care for each other. i really loved seeing cookie's quiet strength here, as she stands up for herself while also dutifully washing her abuela's hair.

The final story is essentially a celebration of friendship and an unapologetic rendition of joy with the four friends hanging out and going to see Kim perform at a club. Readers will adore this strikingly illustrated graphic ode to Black women, their relationships, their hair, their lives and their loves.

This did knock the book down a half star for me, but I would still highly recommend it for comic readers since the overall story and art style were so fabulous. You get used to putting on a face because you don’t want people to know or you don’t want to talk about it. We get four short stories of these four best friends, and we see them going about their daily lives in New York. My own friend group could of been the Guinea Pigs for this work and I think that was what made me fall in live.Wash Day Diaries includes an updated, full color version of this original comic—which follows Kim, a 26-year-old woman living in the Bronx—as the book's first chapt. This honestly had everything I could ever want and more and don't even get me started on the art style! Wash Day Diaries is as much about the relationship between the beauty rituals of these women and the performance of self care as it is about the beauty of friendship between Black women.

A very similar feeling to the one that readers were left with after the original Wash Day minicomic. The different short stories of all the ladies in this squad getting their hair washed or doing someone else’s hair for them all tied together for the last short story.Wash Day Diaries tells the story of four best friends–Kim, Tanisha, Davene, and Cookie–through five connected short story comics that follow these young women through the ups and downs of their daily lives in the Bronx. I loved the friend group in this comic and how they always had each others backs through everything.
