About this deal

There is a wide dynamic range of intensity and the quieter moments offer up those great little moments of tenderness. There are some fun action moments, especially when Santa is getting beat up, but overcomes everyone with some blunt-force trauma each time. But little did he expect his work to get interrupted by a bunch of goons, and make a bloody mess of his wonderfully planned night. Violent Night works best when it captures the warped sensibilities of early-’90s Chris Columbus movies, particularly Home Alone. For the week that ended on January 28th, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Violent Night topped both the the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its debut, toppling Warner Bros.

Battlestar Galactica is responsible for igniting her love for Science Fiction, but she was born with stars in her eyes and is currently loving all things Star Trekand Doctor Who. Violent Night” is looking to conjure a similar energy of violence, comedy, and fantasy, this time putting Santa Claus in a “Die Hard” scenario, with the jolly fat man taking on a team of killers trying to work their way into a high-tech safe. When a group of mercenaries attack the estate of a wealthy family, Santa Claus must step in to save the day (and Christmas).Instead of taking the very tempting opportunity to get one last barb in, Gertrude lets him go for Trudy's sake proving that maybe she's not completely immune to a little Christmas spirit. Full of blood, gore, and strong language, this is no kids' movie, but Harbour's lovable performance and a gleeful irreverence around the familiar action scenes make this a fun holiday gift. A super violent and really funny action movie that doesn't forget to bring the necessary heart and festive spirit as a Christmas movie. Throw in Viking flashbacks, exploding torsos, Beverly D’Angelo, a Bryan Adams needle-drop, and a script by the writing team behind 2020’s airy Sonic the Hedgehog, and you have what, on paper, probably seemed like the greatest R-rated Christmas movie of all time. From Tim Allen’s The Santa Clause to Bad Santa and Kurt Russell’s The Christmas Chronicles, we have seen Santa being not so nice all the time, but that's the exciting part of this kind of movie.

The Christmas magic has been taken out of him, because like in Elf, people just don't believe in him anymore. Sitting in the director's chair is Tommy Wirkola who is most known for his two fun zombie flicks Dead Snow and Dead Snow II. expectations, offering ample spacing and some fine subwoofer and surround usage to spice up the content.

It's an approach that might have been exhausting, watching one brutal killing after another as they get bloodier and bloodier, if not for Harbour. However, Christmas-hating criminal Jimmy "Scrooge" Martinez (yep) has targeted the Lightstones for a very violent robbery. Messages about believing in yourself and in the true spirit of Christmas (joy and giving), as well as some secondary messages cautioning against greed and selfishness -- but all of these are muted by the movie's embrace of extreme violence.
