About this deal

For a 550W power supply, Corsair manages to get in a pretty decent list of cables and connectors to make sure that you are able to make full use of the 550 watts that are available. At full load it spins up and is clearly audible – however if you are running at a load close to 550W then opting for a 750w or 850W unit would be a better idea. The same care that goes into the design and testing of our renowned high-power enthusiast power supplies also goes into the TX-M Series semi-modular, because you need confidence and reliability regardless of your build budget. Except my EVGA RTX 2070 had instability issues using a daisy chain that cleared up when using 2 separate cables. Well this means we can eliminate secondary noise pollution in the test room and concentrate on components we are testing.

With precise timings, TX-M supports Microsoft Modern Standby, ensuring extremely fast wake-from-sleep times and better low-load efficiency.

CORSAIR TX-M Series Low-Noise ATX Power Supplies offer the flexibility of semi-modular cabling and low-noise operation with 80 PLUS Gold efficiency certification and Japanese capacitors. KitGuru says: If you are on a tight budget and are building a budget to mid level gaming system, the TX550M will certainly deliver high quality power. It is very impressive to see Corsair using high grade Japanese 105C Rubycon capacitors in the primary stage – two rated 450V 270uF for a total of 520uF output capacity. i7 8700K, AORUS Z370 Ultra Gaming, 16GB DDR4 3000, EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 Ultra, Samsung 960 EVO 250GB, Corsair HX 850W.

Top all this off with the 5 year warranty that Corsair offers on the unit and this power supply becomes excellent value. Corsair recently launched a new range of semi modular Gold rated power supplies in 550W, 650W and 750W capacities. It did not exhibit any concerning weakness under real world usage situations either, it was able to deliver over 600 watts of power before safety measures stepped in for a safe shutdown. Due to public requests we changed our temperature settings increasing ambient temperatures by 10c (to 35c) in our environment to greater reflect warmer internal chassis conditions. While our first test is well above the 20% mark, the test does show that the unit is well above the 82% mark already.

I just upgraded from a 7 year old Corsair TX550m to a Seasonic Prime Ultra Platinum 750w, and it's powering an overclocked RTX 2080. The TX550M even passes in the efficiency department as it manages to achieve its 80Plus Bronze rating. Since our test equipment's limits are higher than that of the Corsair TX550M, we can test it to the maximum. Compact Size: At just 140mm long, the TX-M Series is designed for great flexibility in build configurations. They've changed up the connector availability, added modular cables and made sure the unit was still of great build quality. The fan profile is not aggressive in this unit and under most load situations you can't really hear it.

Being an 80Plus Bronze rated power supply, the unit must be 82%/85%/82% efficient at 20%/50%/100% loads respectively. Samsung 850 250gb and Adata SX 6000 Lite 500gb  Resonant LLC Topology with DC-to-DC Conversion: Provides clean, consistent power, reduces coil whine for quieter operation, and enables use of more energy efficient sleep states. I can't imagine adding another 50cm of cable for a whole separate connector would add any appreciable amount to the cost to build, but it does guarantee a much more robust power deliver path. The tests performed are based around six conceivable setups that are out there and progressively load down the PSU up to the power supply's limits or 1000W, whichever comes first.

These units target a mass enthusiast audience running a modest gaming system with a single graphics card. The PCIe cables on the Prime are the kind where the second 6+2 is daisy chained off of the first, so all power to the card is running through just one set of wires instead of two. It is very obvious that the cooling isn't the most spectacular that we've ever seen, but so long as it gets the job done and the unit doesn't fail under full load, we won't complain. The unit also achieves over 85% efficiency during Test 2 and manages to hang in there during the full load test with 83. Semi-Modular Cabling: Lets you connect the cables you need for a cleaner build with easy cable management, while dual EPS12V connectors ensure wide compatibility with modern graphics cards and motherboards.
