And it is coming soon to GOG, allowing us to once again immerse ourselves in Citadel Station and face one of gaming’s most iconic villains. It seemingly didn’t occur to TriOptimum when building Citadel to put up signs, as you will find yourself lost and retracing your steps - a lot. The team elected one of its players to face Final Time Shock, which was played in the same way as the original series (60 seconds to answer 12 questions; 5 seconds, including time used to read it, to answer each question). Under two-team rules, the team's representative had to answer 6 questions correctly in "Final Time Shock" to win any money. If you run through each level blasting away without much thought, you will be utterly and completely lost — not only to what is going on, but also what you actually need to do. An unfortunate wrinkle carried over from the original is the absolute labyrinthian design of Citadel Station. You control one of these weapon-wielding eggs in one of four online game modes where the aim is to shatter your opponents with bullets and bombs. Similar to its predecessor it features a skill system that allows us to customize our character’s abilities and playstyle. Join a team (either red or blue) and fight against the enemy eggs until your team has the most kills collectively. We can customize our character’s stats, skills, and equipment, and engage in combat with a variety of weapons and abilities.

Realised in Unreal Engine 4, the corridors and maintenance shafts are dripping in cyberpunk and sci-fi goodness. s System Shock‘s gameplay is a blend of first-person shooter action and role-playing game mechanics. And all of the brilliance brought by the original entry, was later expanded upon in the series sequel.

Typical puzzles might be identifying a picture as a Rubik's Cube solves itself (with the picture replacing one of the colors), identifying a famous person based on paintings and clues by grade school kids, or identifying an object as a karate expert kicks a block of stone into the shape of the object. You move through a very Tron-like environment with six degrees of movement freedom, which can be slightly motion sickness-inducing if you’re not used to it.

It is well worth sticking with and enjoying, however, as what made the original so great is also intact, updated with gorgeous visuals that pay homage to its blocky and pixelated origins.
