At one point Pam gives a dinner party speech that made me (and the book's characters) quite uncomfortable. The four Delaney children—Amy, Logan, Troy, and Brooke—were tennis stars in their own right, yet as their father will tell you, none of them had what it took to go all the way. So how exactly did the annual School Trivia Night escalate into a full-blown riot with sirens wailing and people screaming—events that left the principal utterly humiliated. This is a novel about three twin sisters muddling through dramas in their early thirties (including adultery, infertility, and compulsive relationship sabotage), and I wouldn’t want to be friends with any of them. Moriarty’s first novel, written with wisdom, humor, and sincerity, is an honest look at sisters who have a bond stronger than anything life throws their way.The trouble starts when Cat’s husband announces that he’s having an affair with a woman named Angela. Friendship, love, lust, family, parenting, childlessness, IVF, marriage, and mental illness just to name a few. I suppose I enjoyed the little bit of irony involving the triplets parents the best, although it was not the HEA I was anticipating in the book, I suppose it will just have to do. Lyn‘s life revolves around one lengthy checklist, whereas Cat has just discovered a shocking secret about her marriage.

Princess Petronella finds herself in charge after the King and Queen of the planet Globagaskar go for a vacation. So, as usual, when I find myself waffling like this, I settle for sitting on the fence, which means this one gets 3 stars. This is one of those long, drawn-out stories that's more about character assessment and the hardships of life than it is a story based on its plot. Having read all of Liane Moriarty’s other novels, it always bothered me that I wouldn’t honestly be able to rave, “I’ve read all your books!I feel I should warn you though: Please don't expect the twist to be overly shocking, twisted or scandalous. So can you just imagine how mortified she must have been when she woke up in the hospital only to discover that she is actually 39 years old, with three kids and is getting divorced? Thomas Gordon seemed to be the perfect boyfriend for Sophie Honeywell, until she broke his heart on the day he was going to propose. But theirs is a complicated relationship, so when Erika mentions a last-minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Tiffany and Vid, Clementine and Sam don’t hesitate.

Together, laughter, drama, and mayhem follow them, but apart, each is dealing with her own share of ups and downs. I genuinely want to get on the Moriarty fanwagon, but I think it's time I admit her style is not one that draws me in, even if her titles and premises do. Her writing is smart and playful ("Death was the hot bath you promised yourself while you endured small talk and uncomfortable shoes"), her characters are quirky and lovable and her clever plot turns—like the rekindled love between the triplets' divorced parents—are fun. Soon enough, the parents at Pirriwee Public will find out that sometimes, it’s the little lies that can prove to be the most lethal. I wouldn’t describe her books as literary, but for sheer entertainment and wickedly good fun Liane is my go to guilty pleasure, but this one was a long, torturous road to dullsville.I did have that expectation, merely because the topic was built up so much and was cleverly avoided. Moriarty gleefully describes the triplets' turbulent previous year, which forces them to abandon the roles they've played since childhood. One night a stranger named Savannah knocks on Stan and Joy’s door, bleeding after a fight with her boyfriend.
