This book really is a perfect childrens (or adult if your like me) book and I highly recommend it, I shall be delving deeper into the mind of Jonny Duddle at every available opportunity. The story is fast paced and definitely something that children will enjoy and the illustrations are full of detail and even interactive on some pages.

A crew of pirates decide to look for some mythical treasure despite being warned that it's really dangerous to get to. And the details of the crew and their changing reactions is pretty funny (if you aren’t too attached to pirates). But once the motley men have set sail for the mysterious island, he also tells them it is guarded by the terrible Pirate-Cruncher! It isn't until they are on their way that the fiddler warns them of a monster that could be lurking nearby the treasure.The story has songs which are written in rhyme as well as lots of text in speech bubbles which provides a further depth to the story. The pirates, of course, run into the dreaded pirate cruncher -- the real surprise is how, exactly, they got there. A mysterious old pirate tells a tavern of salty seadogs about an island bursting with hidden treasure. This builds towards a final extended writing task in which pupils can apply the skills with confidence and independence. There is no wonder that it does for it is no more than the back of a horrible and dangerous monster . Eventually their greed overcomes their fear - when they arrive on the island, a hilarious fold-down flap reveals that the island itself is the Pirate-Cruncher, who promptly swallows the whole crew!Les dessins sont sympathiques et (attention mini-spoil possible) l'on peut s'amuser à repérer un tentacule à chaque page.
