About this deal

The renowned Olympus field sensor system makes it possible to record log data such as location, altitude/depth as well as air/water temperature while capturing still images or movies. The TG-6 has a reasonably chunky small grip protruding from the body of the camera which helps you keep a good hold of it - especially if you’re using it underwater or with gloves. We've provided some Olympus RAW (ORF) samples for you to download (thumbnail images shown below are not 100% representative).

Family moments are precious and sometimes you want to capture that time spent with loved ones or friends in better quality than your phone can manage. The new Fisheye Converter FCON-T02 for circular fisheye photography (sold separately) has been added to a versatile lineup of accessories to further expand shooting possibilities. The only slight criticism here is that the buttons are a little on the small side, so if you’re using thick gloves it might present some problems. It also has a version of Pro Capture, found in the flagship Olympus OM-D E-M1X, which starts buffering shots when you half-press the shutter and keeps six images to make sure that you don't miss that critical moment. The image sensor features superb high-speed and high-sensitivity performance for an even better image quality than ever before. But the amazing thing about the Olympus Tough TG-6 is that it can actually do both the focus bracketing and focus stacking for you – all in-camera! lens with a new Anti-Fog Lens Cover Glass, the 12 megapixel backlit CMOS sensor TG-5 also offers Raw file support, a GPS sensor, manometer, compass and temperature sensor, built-in wi-fi and GPS connectivity, 4K movie recording and a 3 inch OLED screen. The option to capture RAW data enables TG-6 users versatile editing options with Olympus Workspace or other image editing software supporting TG-6 RAW files. The double-catch mechanisms on the doors to the battery/memory card compartment and ports protect the insides from any dust or water incursion, although they're a little small and fiddly.

The camera features a 3-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1,040,000 pixels and includes various exposure modes including aperture-priority, shutter-priority, and manual control. For spectacular close-up shots, the Tough TG-6 has an advanced Variable Macro system that goes beyond the limits of what the human eye can see: boasting a closest focusing distance up to 1 cm from the end of the lens and a maximum shooting magnification of 7x3, the camera captures high-quality images of microscopic worlds. Combine all this with a 100-12,800 ISO range and you have a camera that delivers great images in good light, and performs admirably in challenging lighting conditions –obviously noise is going to be a factor with a sensor this small in low light, but files are still usable and the ability to shoot in RAW means that you can recover details. You can get frame-filling shots, with a good fall off in focus when using the Super Macro mode, so that’s worth trying out. Its improved image processing algorithm delivers higher image resolution in low-contrast areas, especially when shooting at low ISO sensitivity.

Use the free OM Image Share app to sync Action Track data with your photos and video on a smartphone. It also has a built-in GPS, compass, and temperature sensor, making it ideal for outdoor activities.

What’s more interesting is the selection of high-frame-rate modes that have been added to this sixth iteration in the series. A new digital teleconverter doubles the zoom factor of the 4x optical zoom for a maximum of 8x zoom. That means that while the camera is capable of delivering some perfectly pleasant images in good light, there are other areas where it struggles - such as in low light.

After using the Tough TG-6 for an extended period, both in the water and on land, I would describe the image quality as decent without being great. Overall, the Olympus TG-6 camera provides users with a durable and high-performing option for capturing photos and videos in challenging outdoor conditions. It’s safe to say that the Olympus TG-6 has somewhat of a utilitarian feel to it - as is often the case with tough or rugged type cameras. Color accuracy is critical for modern creative work, but many creatives have no idea what a colorimeter is actually doing when you put it on your display.

inch sensor is about the same size as you’d find in a smartphone, and without the many digital smoothing tricks that smartphones come loaded with these days, they’ll look at first glance, slightly inferior to the images you get from your phone. As with any camera in which the lens is internally stacked (and so doesn’t sit proud of the body), the user has to be careful to avoid stray fingertips or the camera strap creeping into the edges of shots. It’s also fairly expensive compared with other tough models on the market, such as the Fujifilm XP140 (but does offer some more advanced features than the XP140).We've selected a group of cameras that are easy to keep with you, and that can adapt to take photos wherever and whenever something memorable happens. The popular Underwater White Balance mode has been expanded to three options, providing appropriate color adjustment for deep water shooting. Thanks to a system of seals and double lock construction, water, dust, dirt, snow and cold stay outside where they belong. While the TG-6 packs some fun new features, they won't warrant an upgrade if you already own the TG-5.
