About this deal

Biorąc pod uwagę tytuł książki, spodziewałam się rzeczywiście rozmów, jednak okazało się to naiwne z mojej strony. pages in, all I have had so far is the authors opinion about killers, his political views, and not much else. Christopher excuses his pages of rambling with "but as my loyal readers should know, I digress a lot. This is probably the worst book I have read and one of the very few that I had to abandon at the risk of my head exploding. I can't deny that much of the time, murderous, violent people may have some kind of mental illness in their history.

The dates are haywire - some people are executed before committing the crimes that landed them on Death Row in the first place - perhaps Dee was channeling Philip K. Wiele do życzenia pozostawia także sposób prowadzenia narracji i posługiwany się przez autora język. And although Beyond Evil feels more like the leftovers over his previous books, constantly referring to his earlier work, there's still a lot of interesting conversations discussed.A slightly lesser grievance here, but I also felt the way Christopher just randomly brings up other serial killers every other page was incredibly annoying. This time, however, he combines sections on killers whom he has known, interviewed or corresponded with, with studies of psychopathic serial killers from the past, including Peter Kürten, the ‘Düsseldorf Monster’, John Christie, responsible for the killings at 10 Rillington Place; and Neville Heath, a ladykiller in every sense of the word.

Our resources are crucial for knowledge lovers everywhere—so if you find all these bits and bytes useful, please pitch in. Sunday Times-bestselling author Christopher Berry-Dee is back with a companion volume that delves even deeper into the savage world of psychopaths and their hideous crimes. He details several well known (and a few unknown) serial killers and explains in his own words the reasons for their actions. Nie opowiada o przestępcach, jak obiecuje to tytuł książki - opowiada o sobie przez pryzmat przestępców.

Yet in the course of these conversations, the author also had the chance to interview his subjects' psychiatrists and, in doing so, uncovered a terrible truth: a monster can be hidden behind a friendly face. Talking with Psychopaths and Savages will inevitably shift the reader's view of those capable of the most heinous murders, and in doing so reveals that horror can be much closer to us than we think. But that is not to say that there is a clear link; that's not to say that every single person who has committed a crime did so because they suffer from mental illness, and it's certainly not to say that everyone suffering from a mental illness is capable of committing such a crime. The subject matter itself is quite interesting, but unfortunately, the lack of editing and the overabundance of self-promo quite rightly ruined this book for me.

I have a strange compulsion with books where I feel that I absolutely have to finish a book even if I'm hating it (seriously, to the point where if I leave a book at home I can't start a new one because it's "cheating").

I sincerely hope Christopher (we're on a first-name basis now - I've lost quite a lot of respect for the author while reading this) was just channelling his inner Yoda on page 218 when he said: "But murder the defenceless Travis she most certainly did. Nie przeczę, że autor nie ma doświadczenia, nie ma wiedzy, ale jest przy tym tak cholernie egocentryczny, że nie da się tego znieść. The author brags about his interactions with serial killers and other criminal psychologists, putting himself on a pedestal while expressing a condescending to the readers and those who may wish to get into his line of work.
