About this deal

The boy that she was holding had done something to her son, so she was giving her son a free hit, in front of everybody.

Limmy is a funny bloke and this traipse through his ups and downs, his openness about his mental health and his humour flows with ease. Not Limmy’s fault of course, but I view myself as someone who can appreciate crass humour or explicit sex stories - and the stuff in this book was just way too bleugh for me. He does it without fail for anybody famous enough, and he has a large enough following that it occasionally gets picked up by news outlets and broadcast morosely in serious contexts. You know, ‘I cannot be fucked today, I fucking hate this, despite this and despite that, I fucking hate my life right now, I feel like sticking a rope around my bastarding fucking neck.In fact, he says his new TV three-part series, Limmy's Homemade Show, looks like it was something he has done since lockdown began because it is all filmed in his house in Glasgow - but it is just his preferred way of working.

She was this person who’d been places and done things, she had this whole other life before me, she’d even been married to another man before my dad. It’s not that I still go out with a broken piece of a mirror in the summertime, I’ve grown out of that kind of stuff. It would be shocking news that everybody would talk about for a few days, then they’d go back to carrying on as usual. Fairly early into the book it became apparent that this is indeed a real autobiography, at times brutally honest, and frequently more than 'quite funny'. Maybe it's because he is used to writing up his thoughts, as he details in the various segments about his time on Twitter and away from the sitcom circle.Whilst it's no surprise this book is indeed very funny, it's Limmy's shockingly open approach to discussing his struggles with mental health, addiction and self-esteem that cements this as one of the best autobiographies I've read. Limmy appeared on Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast in 2015, [27] 2017, [28] and 2020. Voicing things out loud that other people keep bottled up is extremely humbling and thought-provoking. But – and this sounds terrible – when I think about a world where wee boys aren’t throwing darts in the air where it might hit them right in the fucking eyeball, it makes me sad .

You can be an impressionable person – which I was – and want to be other people, rather than yourself. Titled Surprisingly Down to Earth and Very Funny (a reference to a running online joke, in which the 44-year-old tweets the same faux obituary each time a public figure dies), the book chronicles his early days growing up on a council estate on the south side of Glasgow (“It was maybe a wee bit rough”), following him all the way through to “getting on the telly”. A lot of us go through life eminently unsure of what we’re doing; we feel lost and lonely in our lostness. There was this classroom with a piano in it, and every week or so we were to go along to it, where there would be this teacher that would teach us music. They come out with it straight: they are clueless, everyone else is clueless, we’re all winging it, and we’re not always very good at winging it.
