Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Jalen perform live knows that he is one of the most captivating performers on today's soul scene. Upstart is the blistering outcome of their studio sessions together - a fierce, futuristic alchemy of tense horrorshow melodics, street-level rhymes and bangin' breaks. This is a sweet piece in my collection because it was a gift from a friend as a 'thank you' for letting him crash my couch for a few days for free, he picked it up in a street market in Portugal near-mint for €20 in June 2017.

After which, alongside his brother JME (2), they joined Roll Deep for a short period of time before becoming founding members of Boy Better Know.

Welcoming another new name to the Más Tiempo family, the B-side brings an impactful label debut from fellow Grime talent and London-based musician/producer Jus Jammin, who steps out under Jammin and showcases his own explorations into house music.

Recorded at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY, with the help of producer/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires) and crack team of a-list musicians, his upcoming album blends heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment. As for his lyrics, there is nothing coded about them, or their meaning: He raps exclusively about distrust and independence.
