I choose this song, Don't Watch Me Dancing by Little Joy, because it brings me back from the first night they met when Joy who was obviously drunk and shy and Edward who was momentarily nonplussed and amused by her beauty. Bueno habiendo despotricado de estas tres mujeres, que a cual esta peor una que la otra, el libro en general no está mal, Jojo Moyes escribe muy bien, por lo tanto, su ejercicio de enlazar la historia familiar de estas tres mujeres, de acercarlas y retratar a una familia, los malos entendidos y los problemas entre padres e hijos, que, todo hay que decirlo, existen en todas las familias, ha logrado en general crear un libro que está pasable. Kate, hija de Joy, madre soltera, que es una madre abnegada, se la pasa quejándose todo el tiempo que transcurre el libro, que flojera de mujer y que falta de carácter. By the end of the novel, we have seen a change in Joy, Kate and Sabine for the better due to their experiences, but I also enjoyed that the author did not try and sugar-coat their lives in that it will be a “happy ever after” for them all, and that there would still be challenges ahead. Sarebbero tre stelle e mezzo per questo libro perché non mi ha soddisfatta fino in fondo e, avendo già letto questa autrice, mi sarei aspettata qualcosina in più. The story definitely improved in the last quarter, however the ending was rather disappointing it felt like a last minute ending just to finish it off.

It gives good insight into the conditions and life in a rapidly modernizing Japan, during a time of great change, in quite well turned small episodes and stories. Joy gets embarrassingly drunk and ends up meeting Edward, a young naval officer who will become the love of her life. The story kicks off with memories of Joy as a young expat in Hong Kong, then shifts to present tense when Kate sends the unwilling Sabine to spend sometime with her barely seen grandparents in Ireland while she tries to sort out her messed up life in London. These are often fine habitats for venomous animals like snakes, scorpions and spiders (in the right climates).
