About this deal

We particularly like the temperature control which can go as low as 80 and as high as 200 degrees Celsius. This fantastic Salter air fryer is the healthy way to cook all your favourite foods quickly with little or no oil, without losing flavour. In the long run grilling meats, fish and veggies is a lighter option that helps prevent heart diseases and is better for the body. However, if you’re someone who uses a deep fat fryer, or you pan-fry a lot of meals, you’re sure to find the Salter air fryer a useful addition to your kitchen.

I suspect with a little more tweaking, you could achieve a lighter colour on the chips, but this would require a much lower temperature and longer cooking time. Salter recommends that when cooking chips, you should parboil them for three minutes for the best results and the air fryer also needs to be preheated for three to five minutes before cooking. We think the Salter air fryer is perfect if you are a solo household, family or have little one's that just can't wait. You also don’t get that sharp, oily crunch you get from frying but they were grease-free and crispy enough considering how little oil was used. Never wrap or cover the food or use an excessive amount of foil as the less foil you use, the more airflow you’ll have.

A handy adjustable timer control and power/ready indicator light make it simple and easy to use, and when you’re done. There’s a touchscreen display on the top where you’ll find the power buttons and preset modes for cooking a variety of foods including chips, prawns, chicken and cake. I decided to keep things simple and tried some home-made air-fried chips, which turned out to be very crispy and the kids didn’t complain. The instructions recommended washing before use - after that our hardest decision was deciding what to eat first. It’s important to note, however, that an air fryer doesn’t actually fry food, it’s just a small electric appliance with a heating element – essentially a mini oven.

The Salter Digital Air Fryer comes with a quick-start guide with 10 easy steps from plugging in your fryer to serving your meal.

The main negative was the space it takes up in the kitchen — the XL large family size fryer I tried is massive and I wasn’t sure where to put it! The Salter digital air fryer itself is simple to set up and use and it’s a quick and easy way to make meals without using the hob or oven. Simple and convenient to use with a 30 minute timer and automatic switch-off, the air fryer circulates the hot air around and through the food for a quick, thorough cook.

If you’re kicking off the new year with healthy eating goals, you might want to try air-frying as a healthy way to still enjoy all your favourite fried foods.

We decided to use a bunch of bananas that were about to turn, cutting them into thin slices and layering them into the supplied tray. It does take about six to eight hours for them to fully dehydrate - but you can check back an hour or two before if you want them super soft or chewy.

There’s no self-stirring function but it has a larger capacity for chips than the Salter, making it better suited to families, and it also comes with a dehydrate function. The booklet also explains all the different timings and how to use the settings for air frying, baking, roasting, grilling and dehydrating. I really liked the healthy air fried recipe ideas provided in the full user manual, with leaner ways to make fried snacks or child-friendly foods like chicken goujons and breaded fish from scratch. No need to cover with foil, or check the timing — you can even keep them warm for a while before serving. While the Salter comes with a recipe booklet, there will obviously be some of your favourite recipes that aren’t included. We also loved that the cooking time is significantly reduced (sometimes to even less than half of that in a traditional oven) and while you do need to clean each bowl between uses, it's worth it for air fried food that is delicious, flavourful and much healthier than traditional frying. It’s environmentally friendly not to produce a paper manual with each fryer but finding the full manual took quite long and it's not quick to access, particularly from your mobile.
