About this deal

This system allows the dog to sit and lie down on the back seat without too much hindrance while protecting the animal under heavy breaking or accidents. If you want a sturdy barrier that isn't complicated to install and will keep your dog from jumping over the back seats, this one is the best we've tested. However, the design of the guard and the components makes putting it together harder than it needs to be in some ways. It comes with an ingenious fitting system comprising a universal bracket with numbered position markers, a clip-in grid system and two adjustable stabilisation rods that secure it against the ceiling of the car.

We are a nation of dog lovers but they may be a distraction to you if they move around in the car whilst you are driving. It is all black with no markings, so we found it difficult to work out what went where and how to adjust the size. It took an age to assemble, not helped by poor instructions and a dead QR code link to a video guide. It’s easy enough to fit without the need for any tools: simply attach it to one of the back seat’s two headrest struts – usually the inner ones – and slide the wings outwards to fit the width of your car.

It takes about 15 minutes to install and is even quicker to remove, it's just a case of moving the seats forward and sliding it out. A dog wouldn't be able to get through the guard, but because it's a universal fit rather than car-specific, it'll fit different models in different ways. The instructions aren't very detailed, but they don't need to be as the assembly is quite self-explanatory. All applications are assessed individually by Klarna and decisions are based on individual circumstances. a>

Your credit rating may be affected which will make it more difficult or more expensive for you to obtain credit in the future. Fitting most cars with headrests, this dog guard will stop your faithful friend from moving about the car and distracting you from driving. One simple solution for longer trips, at least for larger breeds, is an elasticated and adjustable leash-based restraint that fits around the rear headrest struts and attaches to the dog’s harness. If your dog doesn't like being kept in the boot, they may try to scratch at the exposed back of the rear seats though. The guard weighs about 5kg, so it isn't heavy — but leaning into the boot while trying to position the guard correctly is easier with an extra pair of hands (although we managed fine alone). It has been tested to ensure that it can withstand being hit by heavy objects - like a 42kg Labrador.

The Kurgo Seatbelt Tether is simply a strap rather than a full harness like some other products tested here, but it is nicely made and feels substantial enough to hold a much bigger dog than Doris, due to its mountaineering-style carabiner clip. We tested the Travall on our Skoda Fabia with a very energetic, 11-year-old chocolate Labrador named Hershey. Just like baby seats, it has tethers to attach it to the car’s Isofix mountings, and the maker claims it has been crash tested, too. It simply sits behind the rear seats and uses four telescopic rods that brace against the floor and ceiling of the car. Using the medium length screws, we pushed them through the holes in the pole on the dog guard and then screwed them into the hooks around the headrests. In the box comes the dog guard - in three separate parts, attachments for the back of the headrests (two different sizes), plus attachments to alter the shape and size of the main guard. We judged their ‘dog proof’ abilities, how easy they were to fit, and whether they damaged the car and remained rattle-free on a journey. It lost points because it clashed with the central seatbelt mounting in the Discovery, but it could be used in the Astra. uk/" target="_blank" class="b-button__primary d-block mb-10 h-100 d-flex align-items-center justify-content-center">
