Although we still have a few years yet before we get to the 2019 depicted in Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1987 action hit, I kind of doubt that the United States will turn into a totalitarian police state ruled by major corporations and media conglomerates within that time. Paramount Home Media Distribution will release a standard Blu-ray release of the recent 4K restoration of Paul Michael Glaser's The Running Man (1987), starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Conchita Alonso, Yaphet Kotto, Jim Brown, and Jesse Ventura. The Running Man” is the hottest-rated reality competition series, where condemned criminals are given a chance for freedom by running through a gauntlet of heavily armed killers known as "Stalkers.Foolishly but perhaps necessarily ditching the scale of the setting (even Hard Target would handle this better), as well as many of King's darker themes, The Running Man is still a bloody entertaining sci-fi romp, ripe with a 2017 'future'-scape totalitarian backdrop, propaganda, corrupt commercialisation and early reality TV attention, as well as police oppression and resistance movements.

As far as dystopian visions of the future go, this is very much a poor man's ' Blade Runner' knockoff. But the major reason is that there’s a ton of breaking and evolving release news to cover, and getting to the bottom of it all—collating all the details, checking in with sources, confirming key pieces of release information—takes a huge amount of time. Black levels are deep and allow the picture to maintain a stunning amount of depth and detail in darker environments. Use the thumbs up and thumbs down icons to agree or disagree that the title is similar to The Running Man.Based on the story by Stephen King (written under his pseudonym Richard Bachman), THE RUNNING MAN features an unforgettably motley supporting cast, including Yaphet Kotto, Maria Conchita Alonso, Jim Brown, Jesse Ventura, Toru Tanaka, Mick Fleetwood, Dweezil Zappa and Richard Dawson. The film looks positively gorgeous in good lighting, though, with the natural grain structure and crisp, tactile filmic details at work. Before we get to that, however, let’s share those disc reviews we’ve been working on over the past few days. The cheesier and more ridiculous the movie's speculative vision of the future may be, the more entertaining I find it. I'm easily pleased, but for me if a film looks lovely then I'm not overly saddened by lack of immersive soundtracks.
