About this deal

As cacao was so precious it was also used as a currency so was not immune to forgery attempts using avocado stones and wax. The Rubis Chocolate Wine is made from Spanish Tempranillo grapes, infused with chocolate, hints of spice, cherries and vanilla.

It’s currently being sold in Morrisons, with the supermarket describing it as tasting like “Christmas in a cup”. The texture is similar to a Port wine, it is not at all gloopy or viscous, and has a sweet, velvety finish. You should also note that the picture images show only our serving suggestions of how to prepare your food - all table accessories and additional items and/or ingredients pictured with the product you are purchasing are not included. Before the person was sacrificed, they were given cacao drinks mixed with human blood to prepare them as an offering to the Gods. Rubis believes in ‘inspiring the soul’, believing that the best things come from the unorthodox, handcrafting this wine allowed the perfect antidote to escaping the ordinary. This addition of alcohol stops fermentation whilst there is still a high sugar content leaving a natural sweetness in the wine. The palate is quite complex and has more red fruit and rich, dark, chocolate flavours with is a touch of spice at the back of the palate.

Cacao was not easy to source near Court as it grew in the south amongst the Mayan lowlands and because of this, the drink was usually served to people of high society standing such as Nobles or Warriors and presented at the end of Banquets. ITS HOT WINDSWEPT SUMMERS PRODUCE AN ABUNDANCE OF FRUITY Tempranillo grapes - PICKED AT THE PERFECT MOMENT OF RIPENESS.

Elsewhere, we found The Chocolate Block red wine at Waitrose, which is a red wine with "chocolatey notes". The nose is a combination of red fruit notes, particularly red cherries, orange / citrus and, of course, lots of warming chocolate aromas. The company’s Instagram has some great suggestions, such as a Chocolate Negroni, a Chocolate Toffee Espresso Martini, or the dreamy Mon Cherie. Notes of rich cherry and red fruit enveloped in velvety dark chocolate makes it a perfect accompaniment to most desserts. If you are feeling really daring, you can serve it with a main course such as, slow braised Lamb shanks or pink roasted venison. The big, bold red, meticulously matched with something smooth and sweet makes the ultimate, divine dessert. While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it is accurate, it is not a substitute for your reading the product packaging and label prior to use.
