About this deal

The bigger crocodile leaves the big, deep, muddy river anyway, and announces his intention to first visit Humpy-Rumpy the hippopotamus on the river bank, then Trunky the elephant in the jungle, then Muggle Wump the monkey, and finally Roly-Poly Bird in his orange tree. Delightfully simple with a quiver full of laughable moments, Roald Dahl level of writing is surely missed in modern children's storytelling. Currently in development, the theatre division is also concocting a large-scale circus spectacle, that brings together beloved characters from the most popular Roald Dahl stories for the first time. My son was a substantial Roald Dahl follower, and also still is, so I acquired the book view undetected and we have actually not been let down.

Created in co-production with the Unicorn Theatre, the UK's leading theatre for young audiences, this imaginative reading of Roald Dahl’s mischievous story will be directed by Milli Bhatia (Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner, Royal Court) and designed by Shankho Chaudhuri (Alice in Wonderland, Brixton House). Dahl is a wonderful storyteller, even if the tales can sometimes flirt with the edge of the macabre. He said that Dahl was “banging his fist down so hard all the glasses shook and wine spilled” and Bacon thumped his wine glass down with such force that “I thought he would break it”. He has won many prizes, including the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration, the Eleanor Farjeon Award and the Kate Greenaway Medal, and in 1999 he was appointed the first Children’s Laureate.

It’s definitely not my favorite of his that I’ve read so far, but it was still funny and the pictures were enjoyable.

He tells all of his jungle friends his plans and they think he’s an awful mean crocodile so they’re constantly thwarting his plans of munching. The extensive collection of PowerPoints, word cards and photo cards all contribute to an effective classroom session and is guaranteed to be fun for you and your students.

Despite his secret plans and clever tricks, what the boastful crocodile doesn’t know is that the brave jungle animals have plans of their own for him! Next, the crocodile heads to a children's playground located outside an ancient school building and disguises himself as a see-saw, with the help of a large piece wood, hoping to eat a whole class of children, but is exposed by Muggle-Wump. The productions have been created and developed by the Roald Dahl Story Company’s in-house theatre division. This particular story reads like an illustrated novella, rather than a picture or chapter book, and when we reached the exciting conclusion, my daughter sighed and said, “He's the best. The Enormous Crocodile decides that he wants a nice juicy child for lunch, horrifying the other animals in the jungle–his friend, the Notsobig One; Humpy-Rumpy, the hippopotamus; Trunky, the elephant; Muggle-Wump, the monkey; and the Roly-Poly Bird.

All of them are suitably horrified and come to the aid of the children as crocodile tries one tricky disguise after another. Crossing himself in jest, Dahl replied: “I just hope to God that will never happen to any of my writings as I am lying comfortably in my Viking grave.
