About this deal

RJ12 connectors can be used in place of RJ11 because RJ12 has all the connectors RJ11 needs (plus 4 extra). I am assuming you use it for gaming and video streaming and you would like to enjoy a delay free experience. Overall bandwidth is, of course, contingent upon what other components of the network such as cabling or routers can support. If the cable is solid with a matching stripe (Blue with a white stripe and white with a blue stripe twisted together, even better).

If you cable is Red/Green Yellow/Black, connect the green to Pin 1, the Red to pin 2, the black to pin 3 and the yellow to pin 6, do the same on both ends and connect with a standard patch cable to the router and computer. Untwist the four pairs of wires and arrange them from left to right starting with the white-and-green wire, followed by the white-and-orange wire, the solid blue wire, the white-and-blue wire, the solid orange wire and the solid green wire. Carefully cut off the solid brown and the white-and-brown wires so they're flush with the outer insulation. RJ45 connectors can support 10Gbps over Ethernet, provided the other equipment like network cables also support that speed. The twists are important because they help cancel electrical noise that is inherent in electrical cables. However, trying to convert an RJ-11 to an RJ-45 adapter is ill-advised, since there aren't enough wires and telephone wire isn't designed to accommodate the digital signals used in network cables. Using 8 contacts allows for greater bandwidth so RJ45 is used for data-intensive applications like Ethernet and can support bandwidth up to 10Gbps. The biggest differences between these cables and telephone cables is the quantity of copper in the cable (the more the better) and the twists between the individual wires.

Standard registered jacks, known as RJ-type jacks, are found in nearly every communication and data system. With only 2 of the 6 available connection points, the RJ11 plug supports limited-bandwidth applications. In theory, telephony cable can be used to support 10/100 connections (not Gigabit) over short distances.RJ14 is similar to RJ11 but is wired for two phone lines; it uses a 6P4C configuration where 4 connectors out of the 6 positions are used. All three jack types are used to connect phones—for one-, two-, and three-line service respectively.

To achieve a delay free use of your PS4, you will need a proper ethernet network cable installation(CAT5e, CAT6 or CAT6a). Although RJ-45 and RJ-11 connectors are generally not compatible, there may be occasions when you can convert a cable with RJ-45 connectors to an RJ-11 jack. RJ-45 connectors are usually attached to a CAT-5 or Cate-5e cable with eight wires, commonly used in computer networking. In fact, the RJ45(S) jack — as defined in the standardized spec — is rarely used, but the RJ45 commonly refers to any 8P8C modular connector used in computer networking (Ethernet). For 10/100 Ethernet to work, you need to have a straight through connection of pins 1, 2, 3, and 6, and the other pins are not relevant/not used in this scenario. If you can find a telephony cable that is not cut and is a "home run" between the two points you need to connect, and it contains at least 4 conductors, it may be possible. As shown in the schematic above, RJ45 uses an 8P8C configuration, which means 8 Positions and 8 Contacts (or connectors, or conductors). A registered jack (RJ) is a standardized network interface for connecting voice and data telecommunications equipment. I have random RJ11 wires in house which have been cut off as they were used for the master socket and the master socket was in an awkward place. If you need to use a length of cable with RJ-45 connectors in an RJ-11 application, you can purchase an adapter.
