About this deal

A brilliant album and one that not only captured Pulp at their absolute peak but is also one of the most important recordings ever submitted to wax in British music history. Finally got around to listening to this album on vinyl, and I was quite happy with side one as surface noise is almost non-existent, but I did have to turn up my preamp to get to a decent volume. Island/UMC did a really nice deluxe 25th version of His N' Hers in 2019, white vinyl, Abbey Road mastering, sounded great. A routinely great artist, much of Sufjan's universal appeal comes from his skills as a gifted narrator, pairing personal musings on love and devotion with commentary on American culture, whilst welding folk and electronica, the ambient and existential. Here, “Disco 2000” bears an uncomfortable chorus resemblance to Laura Branigan’s “Gloria,” while “Live Bed Show” and “I Spy” hint at the Scott Walker admiration and aspiration that would blossom with We Love Life, which the venerable avant-balladeer produced.

Different Class" is true class material, Pulp spreading their wings and finally get the recognition they deserved ever since that funny little 1983 bastard-child of a band. The cover has two taped tears on the right side so it is VG, the optional covers are in excellent condition (NM), the inner sleeve is VG+ , just a little seam split on one side, light ringwear and bumped corners – so all in all VG+. Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Jalen perform live knows that he is one of the most captivating performers on today's soul scene.which would go on to become the biggest-selling record of the decade in the UK (thus ultimately winning the ‘war’ with their rivals). What makes Cocker's brand of crooning wordsmithery so important to the genre is that he really captured the ennui and frustration of middle-class youth. Pulp don't stray from their signature formula at all - it's still grandly theatrical, synth-spiked, kitchen-drama pop with new wave and disco flourishes, but they have mastered it here.

I often think of Pulp as being ‘outside’ of Britpop, as the music seemed so much smarter and a bit too cool in its own way for such a scene. Not only are the melodies and hooks significantly catchier and more immediate, the music explores more territory. For any common listener, Pulp's sex was sexy, making it one of the irresistible appeals of Different Class”. If you become obsessed with source origin over actual sound/pressing quality and cant accept a digital step or digital recording being pressed onto the vinyl medium you have entered the realm of vinyl snobbery and arent able to actually the music for what it is. Pulp aren’t an obviously innovative band, but on Different Class they almost never lapse into the overt retro-stylings of so many of their Britpop peers: Blur’s Kinks and new wave homages, Oasis’ flagrant Beatles-isms, Elastica’s Wire and Stranglers recycling. This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase from discrepancy-records. It was an album that I was very attached to, and my respect for Sheffield’s Pulp raised significantly!

This might be the best of the lot I’ve owned but the CD and even the streaming service versions are superior to this and any others. By that summer Britpop had reached – depending on your point of view – either its apex or nadir, when Blur and Oasis were involved in a chart battle that dominated newspapers and made the BBC’s Six O’Clock News. Noise was present throughout all of "Something Changed", and then there is distortion on various other songs on this side. was last Friday (30th), I wanted to include Pulp’s Different Class in Vinyl Corner, as it is one of the best albums from the 1990s. Everyone already said everything about the pressing itself so I have nothing else to add about that.

This original pressing has razor sharp artwork (photos and typework) compared to the latest reissues (2011 - 2016). now hooked on bands I’d never heard of let alone exploring some different sounds outside my Laneway. The original is just stupid money now and I have heard nothing but bad things about the Plain pressings. As well as perfectly capturing the behavior of his characters, Cocker grasps the nuances of language, creating a dense portrait of suburban and working-class life. Be aware that even sealed copies of this may have vinyl that looks and plays like it been thrown through a hedge. The negs: the drums have no punch, they barely register and there is almost no change in dynamics when transitioning from the quiet to loud parts rendering the tension and release that pulp are masters of non existent.
