Julia Donaldson has written some of the world's best-loved children's books, including modern classics The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child, which together have sold over 17 million copies worldwide, and the hugely successful What the Ladybird Heard adventures. He moved to England in 1982 to study illustration at the Bath Academy of Art, and then set up home in London.

One of my television songs, A SQUASH AND A SQUEEZE, was made into a book in 1993, with illustrations by the wonderful Axel Scheffler. She lives in Glasgow and spends a lot of time on stage performing her brilliant sell-out singalong shows! Axel’s artwork is exhibited internationally; he has illustrated for many charities and designed the Royal Mail Christmas stamps in 2012.

This prompted me to unearth some plays I’d written for a school reading group, and since then I’ve had 20 plays published. Postman Bear is a short simple story that follows a bear on his journey to post 3 letters for his friends; he wants to invite them to his birthday party. We work separately - he’s in London and I’m in Glasgow - but he sends me letters with lovely funny pictures on the envelopes.

My enjoyment of the tale was marred by the thought of how his friends felt when they must have wandered by his house and overheard the festivities to which they hadn’t been invited.
