I was a sophmore in high school when Pulse was first released, which is right around the time young lads (including me) started dabbling in Pink Floyd. This 180g 4xLP reissue was remastered from the original analog tapes by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman with the original artwork recreated by Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis and Peter Curzon, who worked on the original art with the late Hipgnosis co-founder, Storm Thorgerson. Some of the tracks seem to have the drums and percussion set too far back, but others have them prominent as they should be for a PF recording. If nothing else, Pulse is worth having for Sam Brown's primal scream on "Gig" - brings tears to my eyes, a real Aretha "I Say A Little Prayer" moment. All records has been cleaned along the way to make sure the faults could be corrected, but they couldn't.A huge minus on this pressing for choosing Record Industry (RI) as the pressing plant, and for using hard cardboard inner sleeves. The thick paper inners may look pretty, but they do impart a huge amount of static and will scuff your records - they are not fit for purpose. Of course I switched out the inner sleeves and cleaned the vinyls as best I could, but it's still annoying.
