About this deal

In his brilliant new book, Big Adventures on the Small Screen, Kay talks us through what he says are his “TV memories and adventures”. The book is so obviously Kay's creation as it has his 'voice' written all over it; his transparency, earnestly and comedy are all astounding, and to top it all off he appears to be just as good a story teller on page as he is on stage! It was throughly enjoyable because he obviously would be sitting in his home, sitting down to read his quota for the day and would start rambling about whatever came to mind. I may be 15 years late in discovering this book, but the wait was worth it and although I thoroughly enjoyed the content Peter Kay’s reading off it enhanced it 200%! For a young telly-loving Peter growing up in Bolton, TV meant Sunday bath nights with a black-and-white portable, the unbridled excitement of the new Christmas TV guide and his elderly neighbour's inconvenient hearing problem.

This reading style fits perfectly with Peter Kay’s persona and it makes for a very entertaining, enjoyable and funny listen. He is Britain’s most popular stand up and has been one of our biggest comedy TV stars ever with hilarious hits like Phoenix Nights and Car Share. Comedian Peter Kay has suggested he is keen to revive his popular Phoenix Nights character for a new film. What you do get here amongst the jokes and laughter is a story of someone who worked hard to get where he is. Glad I did, as this was the part where he tells his little anecdotes about the various jobs he’s had. Kay’s previous memoir, The Sound of Laughter, holds the record for being the top-selling hardback autobiography of all time in the UK. Peter Kay said: “Audiences in London have always been amongst the best in Britain, plus I think seeing the show could be part of a nice weekend away treat.

I loved hearing how close he was to his family, how he loved being at home, his favourite tea of chicken Kiev, chips, beans and a fried egg (must try that). It is just that he seems to have been extremely lucky in his road to success and we are all aware of all of it. V. is a hilariously funny, wonderfully warm journey through the popular culture of the last forty years. In fact, I blatantly walked around with my holdall, and nobody even quizzed me about why or what it was. Mostly because I don’t know who this is, I just wanted something light after the icky feeling I got from the hellworld of Joe Ambercrobie’s fiction I’d just binged. We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and improve our understanding of you. Peter’s 2010 tour still officially ranks with the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest selling comedy tour of all time. I find that having to read “joke” every three sentences is a real put off particularly when the joke is not funny. Peter Kay's best selling autobiography captures his early years from school through to college and part-time working. The thing that struck me as a little odd, or maybe just not healthy, I'm not sure; Was how much he relied on his mother (I'm not saying that's a bad thing, or maybe I am *smiling*).

Sometimes he’d be reading, and he’d remember something not included in the ‘official’ version that he was actually reading from, then share a story, only to realize after he started reading again that he’d written it after all, so then I’d have to listen to it again. Peter Kay's new autobiography, which will focus on his work in the world of television, will be published in September 2023. Peter Kay is the gift that keeps on giving as, amid his exciting year of stand-up shows, he’s now set to release a new memoir. The story spans his life from high school to mid twenties when he won his first stand up comedy competition. In 2017, he cancelled a number of scheduled work projects, including a planned tour, for unspecified personal reasons.HarperCollins has won the bidding war to publish this third memoir from the superstar comedian, confirming today: "HarperCollins Publishers has acquired World English language rights to T. Fortunately, he said that he’d been able to put things right and now had a great relationship with his children.

Kay adds: “The only hint I got of Jimmy being immoral in any way was when he met our executive producer, Bridget Boseley. I remember she offered him her hand, which Jimmy took, then he flipped it round to kiss the back of it, but before his lips touched her skin I saw a quick flick of his tongue licking the back of her hand.According to The Sun, an extract from Kay’s book says: “Without a doubt, the greatest British talk show host was the late Sir Michael Parkinson. The second is more touching where he reflects on the role religion has played in his life, and was a unexpected moment of unapologetic sincerity.
