About this deal

I want you to be honest, tell me what you think, and how I can make the podcast even more helpful… Make sure you hit “Send! I want you to know that there are no prizes for going through perimenopause without western medicine.

EDIT August 2023: I've since read another book on the same topic that I much preferred and would recommend, You Can Have A Better Period. Ninety per cent of women experience symptoms of PMS, a syndrome which features a wide range of signs and symptoms and yet there's an enduring lack of understanding about what it actually is, and a disappointingly meager range of treatment options. They’ve also shared that they still feel deep love for their kids but they don’t feel caught up in what’s going on for them.Although, I mean, it’s been a while since I went out on the town, but I’d say that isn’t always the case. Whether it’s not being productive enough, an untidy house, what you ate, or how you reacted to your kids, it’s no surprise that we end up using guilt as another tool to beat ourselves up. And in this kind of situation, you could find yourself doubting the decisions and actions you took in the previous days. Me talking about a 28-day cycle isn't’ going to help, it’s likely to add to any worries that you already have. And the data that they collected was then analysed incorrectly, and I would say reported irresponsibly.

And if you don’t believe me about the cycle seasons being largely arbitrary, try the section for those not menstruating (trans/post menopausal etc) which explains how you can just map the seasons into the phases of the moon! So for those of you who don’t know NICE, it stands for The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence here in the UK.So you might notice things like sleep issues, night sweats, irritability, and then these things can become more significant and appear at other points in your cycle, not just around the time that your period starts. I’m giving away three annual subscriptions to my amazing online community, The Flow Collective, to some of my lucky listeners who review the podcast in Apple Podcasts!

So if you found this episode helpful then you’re going to love Perimenopause Power because there’s a lot of helpful information and strategies in there to really equip you for your perimenopause and post menopause whether you’re already in it or just wanting to be prepared.

For some of you though, I suspect that you might want to read it sooner than you think and I’m going to explain why in a bit because today’s episode is all about perimenopause.

teaches a great irony: the more we embrace our hormones, instead of trying to rule them, the less they rule us. But I am very thrilled to have a studio space to escape to and focus on my work because that’s what this phase of my cycle is all about. I should not have been surprised, but was disappointed, to find so many suggestions of dietary exclusions in ‘Period Power’. There is some advice from the book that I will try to follow: Drink my morning coffee with breakfast, not before it. Perimenopause Power was the natural progression to her debut book, Hill says, as her DMs were full of women asking “what happens next?I’ve heard there’s some helpful info in this book in the midst of these problematic things, but I’ve got other books on my list that will hopefully cover the same information in a less gross, more respectful way. Some of it will be to do with changing hormone levels and the resulting influence on other chemicals in the brain.
