About this deal

In your review you say that the case is brushed, but I've read some descriptions that it is bead blasted. A simple date window cutout sitting at the 3 o’clock marker is about as conventional as complications get on this watch.

A thick brown leather band adds to the ruggedness, while still fitting comfortably and adjusting easily.Unlike other designs, this comes with a unique skeleton case that features durable, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass on both the front and back. Built for endurance, the watch harnesses a Japanese Quartz movement and is water-resistant up to 200m.

The modern re-issue of this classic WWII design features a 38mm case, 30 meters of water resistance, and a vintage-inspired dial design that looks just as great today as it did nearly 80 years ago.

This timepiece pairs a black dial with a black calfskin band, and features luminous hands, Arabic indices, and a date window. It’s available with a sunburst blue (or silver) and a more subdued dial that has a blend of painted and applied indices used throughout. A brown leather strap with white stitching completes the watch’s handsome appearance while also providing comfort to your wrist. Even though black-dialed watches are probably more common, olive drab-colored dials are more common for field watches, so I think it is a fitting hue for the Orient Defender. This allows you to see the time, as well as marvel at the caliber 2100 movement that keeps it all running.

The hour markers and hands are also generously coated with lume, allowing for excellent readability even in dim lighting conditions. Given the number of dive watches that I’ve reviewed here so far, you might be surprised to know that I am actually a bigger fan of field watches. After a long period of abstinence I rediscovered my interest in Orient watches, the OrientStar Sports Outdoor (RK-AU0202N) and the Orient Kamasu (RA-AA0002L19A) stimulated my interest ancillary. The resulting watch is handsome, versatile, and durable, and thanks to the blue dial, it really stands out from the pack.

The new military collection from Christopher Ward ( reviewed here) is made up of three watches, representing air, land, and sea.

Its stainless steel case, nylon strap, and mineral crystal dome offer a rugged toughness that is perfect for any adventure. Both the caseback and crown are securely screwed in to prevent water from damaging the inner mechanisms of the Orient Defender, and they also help contribute to the watch’s 100m depth rating. This watch has a couple of updates, however: the addition of caliber 8806 movement that is extra anti-magnetic, plus a reinforced bracelet for strength.
