About this deal

Chain locks tend to be slightly more expensive than D/U locks, this is because more metal is required to produce them. and because they’re virtually zero traffic rooms you can pretty easily tell who has gone in there because employees have to sign for the key to enter these break rooms. As I’ve already touched on, the ABUS Granit CityChain 1060 uses the ABUS’s well-known X-Plus locking cylinder. Doesn anyone can explain why Kryptonite New York Chain 1210 is rated 9/10 and ART 4/5 when as padlock it uses mini version of my Evolution Series 4 LS U-Lock which is 8/10 and ART 3/5.

It’s not often you can recommend an alternative lock that is both significantly lighter and more secure!

Since the Diamond rating is new, there's loads of locks that are currently rated Gold, but will definitely be bumped up to Diamond when they're tested again. I’d recommend a quick clean and re-lubrication of the CityChain’s locking mechanism every one to two months, depending on how frequently you’re using it. I’ve enjoyed using it alongside my mid-range fixed gear bike over the past few weeks and haven’t experienced any issues or setbacks.

But whatever it's thickness, the chance of your chain being cropped can be significantly reduced by keeping the chain as far off the ground as possible when you lock your bike. They then classify each lock according to the amount of time they took to defeat it, with four available classifications: Bronze, Silver, Gold and (new in 2020! You'll use a mobile chain lock every day, carrying it around on your bike and securing it around your bike and the various street furniture in your neighborhood. The largest bolt croppers are hard for thieves to conceal in public, so they tend to opt for smaller portable cutters. Bear in mind though that both these locks, although Sold Secure Gold, are at the bottom end of that rating.

When you're securing a bike at home, in a garage or bike shed, then the best way to that is with a ground (or wall) anchor. Secondly, because you can wrap them around your seat post or top bar, they can be easier to transport.

security chains advertised as being 3t heat treated Manganese alloy (or similar terms), which is very tough and work hardens as you try to cut it… However, the literature I see on the web says it is NON-magnetic. It’s worth noting that whilst the Mastiff is an exceptionally robust chain lock, its 10mm links could be cropped by the largest bolt cutters. If you’re after a portable lock that will give you peace of mind whilst you leave your two-wheeled investment secured, there are only a couple of locks better than the Fahgettaboudit.

The Oxford Heavy Duty Chain and Padlock is another super budget Sold Secure Gold rated bike chain lock.
