About this deal

They are perhaps a bit harder and less nuanced than shots you can get with the more expensive PRO lenses, but as long as you do not place them next to each other, the difference will not even be that visible. For shooting at the equivalent of 300mm on the long end, the OM System 40-150mm f4 is surprisingly small. The limited aperture means that this is a functional lens, rather than a particularly creative one, when it comes to subject separation and background blur –though as you can see, we've still shot some pleasing portraits with it. With the sun in the center of the frame, this lens captured a disco ball of circular flare radiating from the light source. Furthermore, the Olympus 40-150mm F4 Pro lacks ergonomic luxuries such as a manual focus switch/clutch and a customizable L-Fn button.

But what you’ve done in that case is you’ve enlarged the pixels — depth-of-field is dependent on reproduction ratio! Fully stopped-down performance isn't great, but not as terrible as we've seen in some other lenses, probably because the lens is limited to ƒ/22 at all focal lengths. It has an optical formula comprised of 19 elements arranged in 9 groups, including two aspherical, two ED, one Super ED and one HR elements. R one of the best lenses for travel photography if you're looking to keep your setup light, compact yet capable. Pro produces stunning images with great sharpness (even at its fastest aperture), bokeh, micro contrast and colour rendition. As you’d expect from the longer focal length, the background details are enlarged, including the bokeh blobs, and again the prime lens with its brighter focal ratio delivers a shallower depth of field. So if you’re a Micro Four Thirds owner with relatively deep pockets and a deepish camera bag, I recommend you try the Olympus 40-150mm F2. Another word about sharpness – there is more to it than a fabulous lens, just be aware of that when making your appraisals. M.Zuiko is an all-plastic lens, quite small given the design parameters of the micro four-thirds system.

Obviously this isn't the optimum way to maintain stability, but lots of youngsters shoot this way rather than bracing the camera up against their eye – and it takes next to no effort to hold this lens up and keep it steady, even though it lacks its own image stabilization (though given that the best Olympus cameras offer between 4 and 8 stops of compensation, it's hardly a huge problem).

I found the tripod mount made an ideal handle for carrying the camera round even when shooting handheld. will give you more light at faster shutter speeds, ideal for avoiding motion blur and noisy high ISOs. Comprising 13 lens elements in 10 groups - including one ED glass element -, and offering the same angle-of-view range as an 80-300mm lens on a 35mm full-frame camera, the Olympus M. If you’re interested in test charts (which I never look at, because they can be unreliable much of the time and don’t always reflect field use) there are sites for that as well.

Given the size of the 40-150mm, Olympus also includes a tripod ring mount to achieve a better balance when using a tripod. It’s simple to use, easy to carry around on long hikes, and I even dunked it under a faucet to no ill effects.Whatever system you use, don’t be afraid of cranking the ISO, there’s no way around that in anything other than perfect light, and in my opinion people are far too fussy about a small sprinkling of noise (which is rarely noticeable in print).
