About this deal

The fully automatic CdS light meter also resides inside the filter thread, which allows for metering with a filter attached. Máy cầm khá đầm tay, máy hơi to (so với T2) nhưng khôn I try to live with a camera for an extended period rather than run a quick film through it, to get a real feeling for it and this helps me cut away from the hype. Although it resembles just another cheap, plastic point and shoot, it is actually quite a capable camera and worth picking up if you find one. This active infrared system measures the distance to any subject framed within the central focusing patch indicated in the viewfinder and simultaneously brings to life a focus distance needle display which indicates clearly the point of focus.

Street photographers looking for night shots will be out of luck, and the 38mm focal length and slow apertures will likely leave bokeh-lovers underwhelmed. With it’s small size and ease of use, its reassuring to know you aren’t compromising on the images it will make. It’s hard to explain, but I just liked the images from the Nikon better after comparing a few rolls.

The Nikon L35AF: Still Brilliant After 37 Years | by Thomas

As a midlander by birth and now resident in land locked West Yorkshire, whenever I am near the sea I have to go and have a look at it.This particular camera (not, as far as I know, all Nikon L35AFs) does well at infinity, but struggles with closer items. That said, I wouldn’t recommend photographing anyone or anything closer than just under 1m/3’ away: the camera will claim to have what you need in focus, but it may in fact not be. For the first time in the L-series, a flash cancel button was added to the front of the camera so the photographer could intentionally disable the flash for low light shots. Holding the camera, it is definitely light weight, but lacks that cheapness of later plastic point and shoot cameras. This camera is not intended for those on a tight budget, but it is great for beginners who want to start exploring film photography, as well as more experienced photographers.

The range of film speeds increased to as high as ISO 1600 compared to 400 or 1000 in the original model. After you close the battery door, turn on the dial from OFF to ON and you will hear a sound that the camera is ready to shoot.

Exposure times and aperture selection, ISO setting, film advance and rewind, and flash output are all totally automated. Today, the Nikon One Touch AF3 is one of the rare examples of a desirable point and shoot compact from the 1980s. Some words about the shutter button: this is quite different from most other point-and-shoot cameras – it feels very “mechanical”. By using the self-tim-err… I mean, “Pre-Focus Lever” it’s possible to selectively focus, recompose, and press the shutter release button again to snap the shot.

Nikon L35AF – Pikaichi - Photo Thinking - Camera Review

If you’re looking at the L35AF (Or AF2, AF3/One Touch) then it’s worth carrying on with the rest of this article, I’ll compare this with a similar, cheaper camera to see who comes out and top and I’ll also cover all of your potential questions! And finally, a feature for the readers developing film at home : once you’re done with the roll, you can rewind it by unlocking the ⏮ button with a small switch next to it (at the bottom of the camera), which will get all the film back into the canister while leaving a small tip of the leader out. Yes – especially the black and white shooters will appreciate this – there’s a 46mm thread you can use for filters – and (see the dot below the lens? If you take the L35 AF apart then you have to be aware that the flash can still hold a charge and could be very dangerous. The Fujica DL100 is also a nice camera, but it does not have the same lens, so does not stack up for my part.

But that’s OK, because it did a great job at everything I threw at it, and I found no compromise in exposure, focus accuracy, or image sharpness. It was released in 1983, a few years after Nikon's competitors had opened up the point and shoot market. In low light, when shots are taken at (presumably) wide-open aperture, images become particularly soft with substantial loss of detail. With Nikon’s point-and-shoot, the focus indicator intelligently actuates with a half-press of the shutter release button. I’ve never shot with the original L35 with the 5-element lens, but I can’t image it would have been much better.
