About this deal

This can be visible as magenta and green fringes around edges that are in front of and behind the point of focus, respectively. When the Nikon Z system was announced in 2018, much fanfare was made over the new mount which, in addition to being 55mm in diameter, also has a short flange depth of 16mm. A robust and reliable performer, its outstanding optical performance makes it the ideal lens for photographers who want a hard working lens. If you have a favorite lens of yours for wedding photography that is not listed below, please feel free to add a comment on the bottom of the page with some information and pictures (if you have any that you would like to share). If you use Lightroom, dialing +7 in distortion under “Lens Corrections” will take care of the distortion problem.

I shoot a Nikon D600 and love the old manual focus AIS lenses with the non-cpu lens mode (allows metering to work with the old lenses). It is small, lightweight, and fairly inexpensive lens when compared to other pro-grade prime and zoom lenses. is a great lens for photographing full body shots and it does equally well when taking pictures of groups.

He is Digital Camera World's principal lens reviewer – and has tested more primes and zooms than most people have had hot dinners! I wiped off the dust/sand with a regular brush and then thoroughly cleaned it with a wet piece of cloth after the hike, after which I used it for two more days without any mechanical or other failures. DX vs DX/FX – the first major difference I want to point out between the two, is the Nikon 35mm f/1. I guess my main question is, what lens would you recommend me investing in next, as far as a young, business professional wanting to start out and add another great and versatile lens to her bag? S were the first two lenses that were readily available to be used on the Nikon Z7 when it was publicly released. It is designed to withstand tough weather and is well-protected on the outside against dust and moisture. Once I changed to the 35mm I made sure to show her some of the pictures I was taking with it and she loved them. Instead of filters, however, you’ll probably want to use the thread to mount the supplied metal lens hood.

The plastic HB-89 bayonet hood is fairly big and does a great job protecting sun rays from reaching the front lens element. I use Capture One for photo editing, but I assume Lightroom will behave the same way in this regard. Stepping motors also deliver improved focusing speed, since they have more powerful focus actuators. I’d also give the Nikon the edge for focusing straight out of the box, as I’ve heard too many complaints of soft copies of this Sigma lens. To give you an idea of the quality of the bokeh, I photographed the same subject at apertures ranging from f/1.

Aberrations were carefully designed out of the lens, with an uncommon composition of two concave front elements and three converging elements in the rear, and groups of two cemented lenses arranged nearest the diaphragm corrected what aberrations would still be present. However, if I was shooting a 35mm lens on assignment in rugged, remote country on a regular basis, I’d save my money and get the native Nikon or Canon version. Additionally, Nikon stressed the standardization of filter thread diameter and made painstaking efforts to keep the lens as compact as possible. Distortion correction also appears to be excellent at close distances particularly compared to their other lenses. When Nikon announced the lens, it was world’s first 105mm lens with such a large aperture – the previous generation 105mm lens was an f/2.

Bokeh, the character of out of focus backgrounds, not simply how far out of focus they are, is only fair at f/1. Indeed, priority is given to manual override when in autofocus mode, signified by the M/A M lettering above the auto/manual focus switch. Lens Description: Versatile, ultra-fast wide-angle lens captures classic images with super-sharp results. A note of warning: back- or front-focusing may occur with any SLR lens-body configuration, and an f/1. Those who refer to focus scales and like sticking gaffer tape to a particular focus position might also be frustrated that they can no longer do it on focus by wire lenses.

Nikon was apparently very much aware of this requirement, as they employed an iris diaphragm with 9 rounded blades for a pleasing rendering of the out-of-focus highlights.
