About this deal

It was 13 years later a workman found her remains in woodland near Thornbury near the M5 on October 5, 2009.

Can Pearl possibly solve the mystery in time to make 25th December an unforgettable day – or will the murderer contrive to ensure her goose is well and truly cooked before then? Things happen at the church event and one of the locals drops down dead but then because McGuire was there as a guest of Pearls he cannot lead the case, so who will solve the mystery? As usual I did not guess who committed the murders so I enjoyed reading this, it is nice to read something a bit lighter but still keep you turning the pages. For those committing them, their crimes are as shocking as their sentences are long, with most sentenced to life imprisonment for their actions. I love how she always follows her intuition and as Sherlock Holmes, himself, Pearl notices all the little details no one else seems to notice.

Charlie Broadway, 24, wounded Wilfie Isaacs Jnr, 22, before pointing the double-barrelled pump-action shotgun at his father Wilfred Isaacs Snr, 49, and shooting him dead at close range. The festive month is kicking off in style and Pearl is rushed off her feet with her restaurant, The Whitstable Pearl. Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of reading Julie Wassmer's debut, and the first book of this series, The Whitstable Pearl Mystery.

Only a dozen or so pages in, and you’ll feel that Whitstable is a place you’ve actually been before and that its citizens are somehow familiar. It was the crime that shook not just the South West, but the whole of Britain, left four families broken forever and its impact is still felt today. Freer, with the help of Rina Martin who runs a guest house in Frantham-on-Sea who is an amateur sleuth. Suspects are two young boys, one of whom was seriously abused as a child and who, with out-of-it-much-of-the-time-mother and very protective younger sister has moved around the country a lot trying to avoid the abusive father. He has just transferred to this small seaside town and he meets Rina in the course of a case and they become friends. Tavener was given a life term and told he would serve a minimum of 16 years and eight months behind bars before he will be considered for release at Bristol Crown Court. Her killer, Christopher Hampton, escaped justice for 30 years, but was eventually traced thanks to a DNA breakthrough. The 45-year-old then fled his Brendon Gardens home and attempted to take his own life by lying in front of a train.
