In The Disappearance, Leigh Bardugo reunites Miss Marple with the marvellous Dolly Bantry and has the pair investigate the disappearance of the handsome Michael Barnsley-Davis from Gossington Hall just days before he was due to get married. Authors such as Lucy Foley, Elly Griffiths, Val McDermid and Ruth Ware reimagine the Queen of Crime’s best female detective.

Second, although the stories could feature characters and events from Christie’s own Miss Marple works, the authors couldn’t incorporate characters or incidences from her non-Marple tales. I believe no one could ever surpass Agatha Christie in creating a perfect plot and heightening the suspense in a novel or a short story, but i quite enjoyed these cozy mysteries. Miss Marple is spoken of in more glowing terms (which makes sense after he has gotten to know her) and she goes about doing things that the vicar doesn't know about until she's ready to reveal. As with all collections of short stories, especially those with different authors, I enjoyed some of the stories more than others.

There have been many adaptations of the Agatha Christie stories, on both the big screen and the small, but if you want to see how Ms.About the Book A brand new collection of short stories featuring the Queen of Crime’s legendary detective Jane Marple, penned by twelve remarkable bestselling and acclaimed authors. How do you inspire a whole new generation of readers to want to become acquainted with the original, elderly female amateur detective, Agatha Christie’s “Miss Jane Marple”?

Miss Marple was first introduced to readers in a story Christie wrote for The Royal Magazine in 1927 and made her first appearance in a full-length novel in 1930’s The Murder at the Vicarage. Mary Mead-which would not be complete without a mysterious disappearance-really honoring the “feel” of the stories penned by Agatha Christie-Bravo! In Elly Griffiths’ Murder at the Villa Rosa, Miss Marple’s final trip abroad in Marple sees her enjoying a holiday on the Amalfi Coast, once again courtesy of Raymond West. The stories are written with many of the characteristics we have come to love but also the authors have put their own interpretation across making this an excellent read. I would like to thank both Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for supplying a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. In addition, I am at a loss why the chapter headers did not coincide with the stories included, some stories lasted one chapter, some multiple, and yet you never know where you are as there are no chapter heading. She makes the case that, despite the author’s outwardly conservative views, Christie “ could be described as a ‘covert’ feminist”, and her clinching evidence is the enduringly popular character of Jane Marple; the later Marple novels “all express Agatha’s view of a Britain that has gone wrong, but in which a single old lady can still be a force for good”. Cole does include Miss Marple's nephew (Raymond) and his wife (Joan)but other than that, it didn't read at all like a Miss Marple book.Yet, some of her stories were darker than others, for example, The Mirror Crack’d from Side to Side. Here it's huge fun to see the younger and nosier Jane Marple as narrated via put-upon vicar, Len Clement, and it's fun to be back in the company of his wife Griselda, nephew Duncan, Inspector Slack, and the gossipy women of the village.
