The models were rescued under simulated conditions where volunteers' skills were tested on several life-size inflatable models of pilot whales. Audiences are encouraged to play their part in saving the turtle and the whale, and to feel empowered to make a real difference. The whale had been thrashing around in between periods of apparent lifelessness, but rescue workers were taking it really steady and cautiously, aware of how distressed the baby whale was. Pupils also had the opportunity to walk inside the inflatable whale to find out more about its anatomy and the threats to it.

If walking inside a whale does not appeal, individuals also have the chance to walk beside a giant tortoise.
