About this deal

Looking at the Nelson paint scheme reminded me of the fault (All upper decking on the provided scheme is green). I have found a list of scale conversions for the size of rigging wires i need to use according to the original size scaled down to my model,Gulp! The bleached linen was near white in color Pale yellowish white and is somewhat transparent, I prefer translucent.

Light and dark German, British, French, plus PC10 and 12 with the weave pattern of the fabric evident! I'm not really a 'floaty' person, so I've only ever had a quick look through battleship reviews and can only remember snatches of comments. you need to see the book by Alan Raven and John Roberts- Man O' War 3 Battleships Rodney and Nelson. Also the Humbrol 65 is too deep a blue for the under surfaces and needs to be toned down with a light grey and white combination. At the time portrayed in the Airfix Kit (early 1945), as far as I know, HMS Nelson had bare wooden decks with grey metal decks (possibly H27 Matt Sea Grey), not green or dark red.

If you look at Tamiya’s Rodney and Nelson they look quite different, and with lots of details not in the Airfix kit.

Paint goes on very well and is easy to use, however are no match to any of the proper RLM shades whatsoever. The Super Enamel paints use the same colour numbers, but have refined formula with very small pigment more suitable for airbrush application. I've had sample sheets of these - and the differences between British CDL, German linens and French are noticeable.I can remember Ray Rimmel's article in Scale Models, years ago, discussing PC10, also his various WWI model articles. If it turns out good, great, if not then I would have learned a little more to make the next one better. And they are more than good enough for me -see the pics below of my 1:72nd scale Airfix Bf 109 E-4 and my Tamiya 1:48th scale Fw 190 A-3 below finished in Humbrol enamels. I’m looking at my HMS Nelson kit at the moment; and find the Humbrol 74 Matt Linen paint by far too yellow to look right on the deck. RLM 02 - Humbrol 31, although 31 is a bit too light and could probably use a touch of yellow or maybe something like 94 Brown Yellow .

A green/grey combination of 'similar' shades does exist though - 145 could be tried alongside 149, 91 with 32, or 66 and 67, although this latter combination might be too dark.I try and post regularly and build as many new-tool Airfix kits as possible, such as the 48th Sea Vixen seen here.

An aircraft enthusiast and ex-airline dispatcher, my main interests are 72nd scale kits (not exclusively) WW II aviation, F-4 Phantoms, Fokker Triplanes and military history. One such comment was about the green decking from a HMS Hood review (I've got the 1/600 and the 1/400 in the stash). Can anyone suggest any Humbrol or Tamiya colours to approximate doped unbleached and bleached linen for German WWI aeroplanes? All conversions should be treated as approximations only, all monitors are different, calibrated monitors will be more accurate but there is no guarantee as to the correctness of the RGB swatch. A lot would depend on how strictly the mix instructions were adhered to, but for observers the problem is that it is different colours in different light. The important thing to remember about mixing RAF Dark Earth based on XF-52, is that when you add Flat White to the mix, the red tones in the XF-52 tend to make the color shift to pink. Having said that, some areas of decking, particularly around the bridge may have had a layer of corticene (similar to lino) for which you would need a reddish-brown colour. The original classic Humbol enamels, now in acrylic too The ever-favourite range of Humbrols enamels are now also (mostly) available in acrylic as well.
