About this deal

Made with a blend of Petite and Grande Champagne Eaux de vies, it’s known for its subtly spicy flavour profile featuring crisp apple, dark chocolate, vanilla, and oak. This popular expression is known for its spicy, sweet flavour profile of cracked black pepper, vanilla beans, dried fruits, and tropical fruits. You could drink it with a splash of tonic water, ginger ale, or any filler of your choice, resulting in a very refreshing summer libation. Striving for absolute distinction, the brand doesn’t abide by the traditional classifications of VS, VSOP, and XO. Rounded, silkily textured and medium-bodied, it’s equally at home neat or as a base for classic cocktails.

Founded in 1763, Hine is one of the oldest houses in the Cognac region and named after Thomas Hine of Dorset. While some of the other cognac houses can trace their genesis to the 18th and 19th centuries, Alexandre Gabriel founded Pierre Ferrand in 1989. The juice must be double-distilled in a copper pot still and aged in French oak barrels for a minimum of two years. Now the son-in-law of the owner, Thomas was able to take on a senior role and used his financial skills to make major changes, developing trade beyond France. If you want to be really fancy, get a snifter so you can smell and taste the sweet brandy aromas in their full flavour. Nowhere is that more evident than with the Broderies Range, which consists of single-estate blends produced from the label’s own vineyards. For the most part, they’re sticking with globally recognised names that you either know and love or should know and love, such as Hennessy, Rémy Martin, Martell, and Courvoisier. The history of Hine Cognac starts in the 18th Century, when a young man by the name of Thomas Hine from Dorset arrived in Jarnac to undertake administerial work for a Cognac producer. Our hugely popular Cognac Lovers Facebook Group has evolved into THE place for communication with our diverse global Cognac community.

But there’s also plenty of structure on the palate, including satisfying notes of hazelnut, ginger snaps and a backbone from the wood tannins. Nearly a century after its creation, this classic VSOP continues to bridge the gap between elegance and power, combining roasted apricot and stewed apple with a vanilla-accented backbone from maturation in Limousin oak. While the grapes have been grown in the traditional way for centuries, husband and wife Jean Luc and Marie Françoise Pasquet realized that their vines weren’t in great condition so in the early ‘90s they decided to switch to organic farming.

Gran Mariner differentiates itself from the other cognac brands because it’s more than just a cognac.

Not so with Hine Rare, which I would enjoy alongside a characterful Connecticut shade wrapped cigar with depth and body in the filler tobaccos. With more than 250 years of history and seven generations of cognac makers, there’s a reason Hennessy is one of the most well-known cognac makers in the world. This is the reason that, even though they only produce 40,000 cases (12 bottles per case) a year, they own 120 hectares of vineyards. With its inception in 1835 in the town of Jarnac, it’s known as the least traditional of the major houses. Alternatively, just pour yourself a glass on the rocks, maybe with orange zest to perfume the glass ever so gently.Hints of liquorice, violet, plums and fresh pear give the drink an elegant texture, while the subtle vanilla and menthol finish top the drink off perfectly. True to the Hine House style, Rare VSOP is distinctly elegant and loved by connoisseurs and novices alike, thanks to its velvety texture and long finish.

A tasting of our cognacs, exclusively from the region’s first two growths, the Grande and Petite Champagne, will conclude the journey to awaken your senses. The delicate and smooth beverage is best enjoyed neat, on the rocks and works equally well in a classic Champagne cocktail. But there's more to brandy than just this well known one, so we've compiled a list of 10 of the best brandy brands in the world. There's also Armenian brandy, South African brandy, Cypriot brandy, Italian Pomace brandy – or Grappa – the list goes on. In turn, some output doesn’t fall under the official “cognac” banner, even if it’s crafted entirely from Grande Champagne grapes.
