About this deal

I was taking photos of the moon two days ago, choosing a windless night because wind is a no-go weather with this tripod.

Hama Camera Tripod Star 61 (light tripod with 3-way head

When I was a kid I had to read this book for school about these weird 3-legged aliens and I loved the book so I have this weird appreciation for the aesthetic beauty of the tripod. At 300mm, the imprecise adjustments and head sagging starts to seriously interfere with my ability to do any framing at all. Direct experience is more helpful to this direct question than general guidance even if general guidance helps on similar questions in the future. I extend the first extension parts of the three part legs, but not the second ones, because the 2nd extension legs are so thin that trade-off between height and wobblyness is not good, and this means I won't be able to stand behind my camera, which I knew beforehand and brought a garden chair to sit on. I was shooting in night when I realized that through manual settings when you increase your shutter speed the images becomes blurred due to slight shake and you need some sort of support or a tripod to have a clear picture. So I make one tiny focus adjustment, wait several seconds until the shaking dies down so I can see the result, and repeat a dozen times over. i suppose you get what you pay for, sorry I bought the Hama Star 61 now using it as a mono pod, my dlsr is to heavy for it especially when i use my 70-300 zoom lens. But since I am a starter I should try to use the simpler ones first and then move on to expensive ones.

I recommend this tripod to all on a budget, the only downside is there's no instruction manual needed for begginers who've never owned a tripod before and dont know what knob is for what, but its quite simple to operate. Assuming the lens/body are balanced on the head (and they're usually not), then as soon as you tilt the head the weight is off-center and the tripod will no longer stably hold the weight. From previous experience I know that 2 seconds delay is not even nearly long enough time for the camera+tripod combo to stop vibrating. Excellent value for money, easy to assemble and adjust and appreciate the little touches with it like the carry handle on the side for transportation, yeah you can't go wrong with it. i must say it is well made so that it fits into an extremely small case, despite it being over a metre high when folded out.

if you can say more about it I would recommend you to look at that model video so that you can be little more helpful for me !The Star 62 has a slightly higher maximum height and is rated at 4 kg instead of 3 kg, otherwise they appear identical. it has a normal screw, capabe of holding nearly any camera, however, the top bit has alot of screws and fixtures that i dont really know the reason for. But, I got steady hands, and with the help of focus magnifying on the rear display (live-view) I finally get the moon in focus (to tell you the truth, I did not, because I forgot my reading glasses home. If you already have a cheap tripod and you want to get something better, save yourself a lot of money and frustration and get the best tripod with an arca-swiss quick release system – skip the middle. This is the model for those who want all the features of the Star 75 but with braced leg that gives greater stability.

Now it's more like "put the subject somewhere in the middle of the frame with lots of room on all sides, keep my fingers crossed, and do the framing in post".

And there's this hook where you can hang something heavy for stabilization if you're somewhere windy. At 300mm, it's hard to manually focus on the moon at night (or anything else, for that matter), since touching the lens causes the live view to shake so badly that I can't tell whether it's in focus or not. Not only does it have beautiful, sleek, silver triangular lines, but it's got the requisite number of knobs and joints to make it look imposing and alien.
