But when Manchester exhibits Noon’s nude self-portraits in a gallery without her knowledge, the film explores thornier questions about exploitation and objectification that apply to almost anyone tackling similar subject matter, at least if they do it as a collaborative enterprise. In Film for Her, much like a visual diary, word and image are intertwined in a book perfect for both gift and self-purchase.

There are certainly major British filmmakers with unashamedly sensual imaginations, but can we describe the likes of Black Narcissus (1947), If…. Spike Jonze has a history of injecting emotion and humanity (awkwardly clothed and coiffured as it might be) into his idiosyncratic films. On Sun Swallowing is a sweet and bloody collection of poetry, dancing in the spaces between skinned knees and red wine, satin and switchblades, rosaries and Dionysian ecstasy. On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 91 out of 100, based on 47 critics, indicating "universal acclaim". In discussing the film's look, Jonze told Van Hoytema that he wanted to avoid a dystopian look, instead the two decided on a style that Van Hoytema termed "kind of a hybrid between being a little bit conceptual and being very theoretical", [25] Van Hoytema took particular inspiration from Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi.

Given the lack of reliable background information, it’s impossible to say whether this coyness was intended to be erotic or whether a beady eye was being kept on obscenity laws so strict that the philosopher Bertrand Russell once complained that it was impossible to campaign against them without breaching them.

The role of Samantha was recast in post-production, with Samantha Morton being replaced with Scarlett Johansson. His own love life is non-existent, still processing the break up of his marriage to Catherine (Mara), from whom he is soon to be divorced. So the following 10 films are at least as much illustrations of social and historical trends as they are defining examples of cinematic eroticism in their own right. His work on the film inspired him to explore developing his own video games, eventually leading to his first title, Mountain. Lasting only a minute or so, this late Victorian film was also catalogued under the title Woman Undressing, which provides evidence that its primary purpose was to titillate, although (presumed) director Esmé Collings only lets his unidentified star strip down to her voluminous petticoat.

i know many people find “short poetry” exhausting or repetitive but i didn’t find myself thinking that at all while reading Film For Her. And as I tap the end of my pen on the corners of my temples, I remind myself that it's okay if I don't have the right words right now -or that I'm not Hemingway.

In a 2016 BBC poll of 177 critics around the world, Her was voted the 84th-greatest film since 2000.

Clear strings of motifs and topics discussed and apparent in the book, though oftentimes felt overly discussed. Something about this didn’t feel entirely genuine…maybe I’m just turned off by people who romanticize the trauma? Several scenes included fictional video games; these sequences were developed by animation artist David OReilly.

i enjoy writing poetry but i often find myself lost when trying to find inspiration, this book however put so much motivation me to keep writing and it’s safe to say it was the inspiration for a lot of my recent work.
