Festival-seekers looking to save money should plan a trip to see The Great Reno Balloon Race, which claims the title of the largest free hot air ballooning event. The new Daisy balloon was built by Cameron Balloons in Bristol during lockdown to bring a smile to faces. Bristol Balloon Collectors will bring the huge Thomas The Tank Engine balloon to tether in the arena this year. The event has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1979, when just 27 balloons appeared in the first mass ascent, and has become Europe’s largest free annual hot air balloon festival. In October 2023, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta will be celebrating its51st anniversary.
The balloon festival always has a community tie, donating a portion of ticket and beverage proceeds to a local non-profit.
Kathryn Wiltshire, National Highways’ network planning officer for the South West, said: “We’re reminding road users to plan ahead during the Balloon Fiesta – roads leading to the event are likely to be very busy. There’s also family entertainment running throughout the day, food and drink stalls, and live music. Crowds were treated to an amazing sight after balloons could finally take off for a long-awaited festival after high winds delayed flying. Our Mission: To provide fundraising opportunities for local non-profit organizations while celebrating our community.
The balloons were inflated in Lloyds Amphitheatre as people in the city took a morning stroll or an early commute to work, with a small crowd gathering at the site. There was disappointment for organisers Show Time Events Group after high winds prevented the balloons from being released into the air. You might remember the dragon gracing the Bristol and UK skies from 2010 to 2015 operated by Lindstrand and is a firm favourite amongst many. Located at the picturesque hilly oasis surrounded by vineyards, Lake Skinner Recreation Area in Southern California is ideally located for a summer getaway. Matt Rate, chief pilot for Vista Balloon Flights, who navigated one of the balloons for the event, said: "It was amazing.This festival boasts a number of unique accomplishments, such as setting the world record for longest-running balloon festival in 2013 at 66 days. This one-of-a-kind race starts not with a pistol shot or air horn, but with a human cannonball stunt, where record-holding Davis "The Bullet" Smith launches out of a cannon 75 feet into the air and over the crowd. There is a jam-packed schedule full of family fun planned for the Friday, too, with lots of shenanigans on offer for the kids! The New Jersey Lottery Festival of Ballooning is the largest summertime hot-air balloon and music festival in North America and is the premiere family entertainment attraction in New Jersey.
