I highly recommend this book if you love Fairies / the Fae, mythology, fantasy art, illustration, and watercolor! For example, the author mentions complex social structures of this faerie or that, but then never explains said structures. My favourite faeries in the book where, The Elder Mother, The bloom fae, the mushroom fae, the green men, the gnomes and brownies, and the Pizkies are just super adorable, I mean come on that bookworm is just soo cute. I absolutely loved this book, the artwork was stunning and it’s set up like a little field guide to the different types of faeries. At first, things didn’t really work out because I lost touch with fantasy and the faery world as I grew older and went to art school.

Furthermore, the author states that gender is not a part of fairy existence, but she mentions it on occasion as if it is. I set out to build a career as a fantasy illustrator but, to be honest, it never really worked out for me, I never felt like I was doing anything I should be doing, and I hated the assumption that I would just draw faeries. I did think the font used in the "written" portions was hard to read and I was a bit disappointed that so many of the art pieces were sketches rather than full color finished pieces. The Faultlines is an ancient name given to those places where the veil between this world and the Other is thinnest.Nothing was really planned out, it was all very natural and it made perfect sense to create a book which people could take with them when they’d go out into nature.

When I stumbled upon the book Faeries by Brian Froud and Alan Lee, I figured that could be my job when I grew older: paint faeries, be an artist. The font used was a super slanted and cramped cursive font that I struggled to read, especially on some of the faerie names.

Then again, I hear that the author has taken from previous books of the same nature and then expanded on those.Compiet created this place full of fantastical wonders, and the new Faeries of the Faultlines: Expanded, Edited Edition takes readers on a journey. When they do, only their glowing white eyes are visible, as their otherwise dark features hide them from sight. She has made a name for herself on Kickstarter with several projects, but most noticeably with Faeries of the Faultlines.
