About this deal

It won't take you ten minutes to read through them all, and overall, I think this is the most unnecessary section in the collection. I am desperately fascinated with L’s character and do intend to find papers that others have written about him because I think there are connections to be made. The manga ended in 2006, and the anime in 2007, but many Death Note-related media have been created since the original story’s end, from the various live action Japanese films, that one Netflix movie, a J-drama, a musical and of course, various one-off manga by the original creators. In the room, teachers are remarking about how Minoru Tankana scored top in the IQ tests again, 3 years running. Despite some of these stories existing for years before this collection's publication, this is the first time they've been collected into a cohesive release.

Prior to its re-release, it was referred to as the 2020 one-shot chapter or the "Never Complete One-Shot" due to its partial manuscript release at the Never Complete Exhibition in 2019. This manga includes a variety of stories that are adjacent to, but not part of, the main narrative in the Death Note series. Now a high school student, Minoru accepts the notebook from Ryuk, but he has no plans to use it himself. After learning all the rules Minoru comes to respect Kira even more, saying how smart he was using all these rules to his advantage and to deceive people.

But mixed in with these proper 50+ page 'short' stories are some genuinely brief ones, four-panel gag strips, which if nothing else enable Death Note to get in on the august manga tradition of swimsuit episodes.

Of course, the idea of killing bad people is one that someone would have, but there are characters who are genuinely disturbed by the idea of killing anyone, and others who find more… financial uses for the notebook.

Prve dve i poslednja priča imaju najveću težinu, dok se ostale (još kraće i komičnog karaktera) čine kao da im ovde nije mesto. Near (the new L) is not interested in investigating because the deaths are morally ambiguous, especially when people (including those who aren't old) start asking to get knocked off. Against the backdrop of a pandemic, Ohba apologized for a few jokes throughout the manga, as it is his style of writing, and hopes that audiences enjoy the manga regardless. No aporta gran cosa a la historia original pero si eres fan te gustará seguir en el mundo de los Shiringamis. There are numerous rules such as ‘heart attack’ being the default cause of death unless one is specified, and if you give up the book you also lose your memories of said book, etc.

At the very least, you can enjoy seeing Takeshi Obata's spectacular artworks again, which is a blessing to this world.

This is especially true when you compare his story to the characters in Death Note Short Stories, which I actually found a lot more compelling than the original series – and I LIKE the original. On top of that, the addition of the newfound information provided in the "a-Kira" story is amazing for fans of the series lore making the universe of Death Note feel that much deeper. Light’s superpower is his intelligence and his way of words, which is an awful combination when you arm someone like that with a tool of mass destruction. Taking place in 2019, nine years after Light Yagami's death, a lot has changed, especially in Japan. What I like is the fact that not everyone defaults to “must immediately kill people” so we get a nice range of perspectives, and with those perspectives come some hard truths to swallow.

In Japan they were originally published in 2008, to promote the L: Change the WorLd novel, but this is the first time they’ve been translated into English. I didn't realize this until I started working on this review, but this was actually the Death Note manga pilot. And maybe he did – there was a sexy Nazi werewolf cub, after all – but if so, I've never been able to find out exactly what. Ryuk then consumes the apple and heads down to the human world to find a human who would feed him apples and give him the same kind of entertainment as Light. It might be because of where my headspace is in 2022 compared to the early 2000s, but I found myself more invested in these short stories than in Light’s attempt at creating his idea of a more “just” society. Along with the 4-panel comic strips that focus on things like “Ryuk’s existential crisis about Misa carving apples into bunnies” are stories that focus on everyone’s favorite “I sit awkwardly and live on candy” detective, L.
