Put the first coat on and the old surface seems to be repelling the new paint and gives it a dappled appearance. It can also be applied on terracotta, brick and stone, bringing out beautiful rich colour into the garden. It is free-flowing to enable a smooth finish that gets into all the gaps and allows the profile of the wood to be a maintained. In situations like this we always recommend a test area before starting the main project to test adhesion. It is important that any wood preservative used does not contain wax, oil or silicon as these will penetrate the wood and repel any water-based product that is applied on top. It would appear by my own personal experience and all the other reviews that your product is not fit for purpose .Looks like a decent natural stone colour on the label, but the paint itself is an entirely different colour.
It sounds as though the protective layer of the previously applied Garden Shades is stopping the new coat from adhering.
Bring life and colour back into your garden with cuprinol colours shades, whilst also providing added protection. Garden Shades is a water based product, so an application of water and detergent should provisionally be used. Please note some larger products are delivered to kerb-side (the street outside your home), it is at the drivers discretion if they can deliver the item to another location on the property. If wood has been exposed and dried out for a long period of time, this may also draw the more of the product away from the surface and into the wood structure. Its important than any preservative used is wax free otherwise the paint may not adhere to the structure.
Second coat appeared to be 'dissolving' the first layer exposing the original surface in big patches. In response to your reply Cuprinol, I did contact and sent images which I've not had a responce as yet!On areas subject to wear, such as garden furniture, allow Cuprinol Garden Shades paint to dry for a few days before heavy use or contact with soft furnishings such as throws and cushions. Untreated wood: should be pre-treated prior to adhesion test with an appropriate wood preserver to prevent rot and decay. Be mindful that it is waxed-enriched and that once these waxes are dried, they act to repel liquids, which would include an additional coats. I really wish they would get there colours right, I chose Natural Oak didn't look dark on tin but it's the colour of dark chocolate.
