About this deal

These small binoculars offer a 7x magnification and a sizable 50mm objective lens, striking a good balance between size and light-gathering ability. If you're an astronomy enthusiast who loves exploring nature and traveling, you'll also appreciate the lightweight design of these binoculars, weighing only 1. This provides the binoculars with an identical build design whilst still removing some of the weight. Overall the TrailSeeker ED 8x42 is quite comfortable to hold, but the lack of features holds it back. Users are further gifted a highly reflective silver alloy coating to the internal prism lenses, resulting in a brighter view overall.

Celestron TrailSeeker ED 8x42 Review | Tested by GearLab

This is thanks to Nikon's multilayer coatings on all glass elements and the included Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements. Firstly because you are seeing a "bigger picture" it makes it much easier to quickly locate what you want to observe, which if it is small (like a bird) really helps. Whilst essentially similar in shape to the older, non-ED TrailSeeker, Celestron has updated the pretty standard single bridge roof prism design with a new, more modern-looking exterior that I personally really like the look of.Best seen as an alternative to a telescope, these large astronomy binoculars’ 25x magnification and 100x objective lens bring objects closer, though you’ll need really dark skies to get the best from them. If you’re a committed birdwatcher, you will already know all there is to know about the Swarovski brand, partly because any discerning birder you share the experience with will almost certainly have a pair on them. It takes the weight of the Celestron TrailSeeker 8x42 off your neck and onto your shoulders, making it much easier to carry them around and use for long periods. While we don't usually talk about binocular accessories because of the near-identical group of neck-straps and carrying cases on offer, the Celestron TrailSeeker ED 8x42 throws a unique bonus item into the mix. Given the quality of the standard glass in the Celestron TrailSeeker 8x42 we’re not convinced the upgrade is worth the considerable extra outlay for most people, though there is a very slight issue with colour fringing on the Celestron TrailSeeker 8x42 if you use them for astronomy.

Here, once again, I compared what I could see through these and my benchmarks on a number of different occasions and in a variety of different light conditions and as with the brightness, I was very impressed with the general quality and color reproduction. However, the pièce de résistance is a harness strap, which is worn across the shoulders and takes the weight of the binoculars off the neck. With BaK-4 prisms and multi-coated lenses, you can expect good optics that are similar to more expensive models. The Celestron Nature DX 12x56 binoculars are a great choice for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy activities like wildlife observation, bird watching, and astronomy. Just like the Action EX 12x50, you'll want to pair these Nikons with a tripod and L-shaped adapter for extended use, but they're worth the effort, delivering bright, sharp and colourful images across the board.

Plus, the rubber armor on the outside provides a sturdy and shock-resistant grip, making them comfortable to hold. It’s also got multi-coated optics to maximize the light transmission through its 42mm objective lenses. They're smaller and lighter than most 8x42 binos, which makes them easier to tote to your birdwatching spot. A harness strap fits across the wearer’s back and transfers the weight of the binoculars from neck to shoulders. While there are some true wins to this model, there are a few reasons why they're on the cheap side, and we discussed them in our Celestron UpClose G2 10x50 binocular review. Each binocular is reviewed based on many aspects, from its construction and design, to how well it functions as an optical instrument and its performance in the field. Another big and bulky pair of Nikon binoculars, the 10x50 Aculon A211, are porro prism binos that are decent all-rounders, and while they're not quite as hefty as the Nikon Action EX 12x50 binoculars further up the page, they're still pretty heavyweight.
