The silver was a fast favorite as the black case reminded me too much of the black plastic digitals of my youth. Considering myself to be a careful fellow, I borrowed a bottle from my wife and dabbed a Q-Tip for round two. At first, it feels a little strange wearing a strap that is heavier than the watch, but not unpleasant.

It has dive-style “waves” near the lugs that usually exist to compress as you descend, although, on this strap, I’d say it they just for show. The 4mm thick leather is oil-tanned, so it has deep color and a magnificent pull-up effect when bent that gives it a comfortably lived-in look.Some folks have cut away the crossbars that separate the displays, but I don’t think that’s a great look. In Part the Third, I will tell you how Kranio Designs takes this humble beater to the next level with a stainless steel case. This watch will accept standard 16mm Casio adapters and can have a Nato or Zulu straps installed no problem.

It’s not a copy, but there are certain key elements that connect the two, most notably, the “radar” in the top left (a clock on the Casio, a stopwatch on the Seiko, and a tracking device in the movie), the beveled black bezel with its clipped corners, and the raised nacelles for the four function buttons.It’s indicative of the kind of thinking Casio applied to the rest of the watch; definitely built for a budget, but with some real thought behind it.
