About this deal

Like many homes and businesses on Dominca, Macoucherie Distillery was virtually destroyed by Hurricane Maria in 2017, but is back producing rum from sugar cane using a hydro-powered press. The Cabernet Sauvignon is described as having a “silky-smooth texture, with jammy dark fruit and aromas of toasted oak and vanilla”. These rums not only present a satisfying experience when consumed neat but also blend well with various mixers like cola, lemonade, and ginger beer.

Bush Rum Mango blends in ripe natural mango distillate with Original Spiced to create a spirit that is fresh, bright, and bursting with tropical fruit flavour. Great served over lots of ice, just sit and relax in the garden with a large mango rum + ginger ale. Probably the drinks industry’s rum of choice, El Dorado is produced in Guyana and has a remarkable quirk in production, as the distillery features wooden stills which are used for distillation at high temperatures.

Fortunately, this wonderfully sweet, aromatic pineapple-infused spirit is now available for the rest of us to enjoy and is perfect sipped over ice. The brand itself is inspired by the flavoured style of rum originating in the Caribbean, the term ‘bush’ referring to the foraged ingredients that were subsequently added to the spirit. The grapes used to make the 2019 Bacchus were sourced from Poulton Hill Vineyard in Gloucestershire. The fruitiness of the mangoes does not overshadow the drink but rather melds well with the spices, offering a balanced taste. The more exotic herbs ranged from savory spices like “chook chook” and “pueve,” to the bitter Moringa, to the very anise-flavored l’absent and nannie, which tasted almost like a shot of Fernet.

And although rum distilleries throughout the region quickly realized they could age the rum in barrels and add spices for a richer, more complex flavor, the people of Dominica took things to the next level.
