If you're a young child you can start to explore the ideas you already have with more understanding and context. It’s the sort of book that just makes sense – and as an adult I was able to relate to so much in it. But as Berkun himself states in one of the essays, the size of the idea isn't indicative of its quality - smaller ideas can generate a lot of value too.

Each philosopher is given their own chapter and the short, pithy structure and length of the chapters entice you to keep reading.

Reading these books is akin to embarking on a journey of self-discovery and equipping young minds with the ability to navigate life’s complexities. Perhaps one in five chapters is profound or insightful, with the rest being almost offensive in that the author must believe he is adding value, but in reality it is mostly banality. I subsequently watched a YouTube video of him talking about his previous book: Myths of Innovation, which I have started reading after completing Mindfire. Along side that there are chapters teaching our children crucial lessons about life, about love, and about loss. Scott Berkun is the author of four popular books, Making Things Happen, The Myths of Innovation, Confessions of a Public Speaker and Mindfire: Big Ideas for Curious Minds.Topics such as ‘Why you feel lonely’, ‘Politeness matters’, ‘People are unhappy not mean’, and ‘The mind-body problem’ offer invaluable insights into philosophy in a way that our children can really get on board with. If all you know is judgement, that's all you'll express even when you're trying to love, and on it goes. The author’s prose style is compelling, due in part to his interest in classical mythology and modern popular culture… Berkun’s memoir is ideally suited to an audience that’s similarly concerned with the challenges of adulthood and parenthood in the 21st century. I read this initially to see if content is appropriate, although I also found reading the book to be better way to discuss these ideas - It doesn't get the same eye rolls from my kid when I try to "have a talk" about feelings or behavior directly :) I also learnt a few more things about these often-ignored important topics and some philosophers. As for the author, being cooped up in that world; he’s out of touch with reality and therefore, affected by his optimism bias.
