About this deal

Looking for the best budget whisky, the best single malt whisky, or the once-in-a-lifetime must-try whisky? I hesitate to use the descriptor “salty” once more, but that’s what comes through most on both the nose and the palate. I’m getting a good bit of vanilla combined with some sweet caramel, but there’s also a good bit of alcohol burn coming through, which I don’t always get in a whiskey of this proof. I have just used a 1970’s 43% Ballantines in this months Whisky tasting and it also went down very well.

The thread pitch on the cap is shallower than you’d expect, meaning you’re going to be twisting it longer but it’s also going to seal more completely. It’s an accomplished blend that’s easily drinkable and definitely worthy of its highly regarded profile. As far as the composition of the blend, Jason indicates that the older bottlings have higher malt content, while contemporary blends lean more on grain. The Singleton Of Dufftown 54 Year Old is an ultra-rare whisky limited to only 235 bottles, the ultimate collectors’ bottle. This Scotch whisky perfectly combines notes of fruits, caramel, and oak spices from Sherry-seasoned European oak with bright citrus and vanilla notes of Sherry-seasoned American oak. It’s a classic after-dinner malt with a richness and complexity stemming from its second distillation in sherry casks. The is the oldest single malt from The Singleton to date, and the second and final bottling in The Singleton’s Paragon of Time Collection, a 54-year-old 1966 vintage single malt Scotch by the Dufftown distillery in the heart of Speyside. It combines malts from every region in Scotland, hand-picked by Master Blender, Keith Law, one of the prestigious names in whisky. The company was acquired by Pernod Ricard in 2005, adding to their Chivas Brothers portfolio of blended Scotch.

I bumbled my way through a brief dissertation on the consolidation of the Scotch whisky industry, and the associated changes to production methods and so forth. I would have been contented with a brief glimpse into this cache of wonders over the course of the dinner party. It’s so special that each year, for an entire week, the distillery stops every other activity and dedicates itself to producing the chocolate malt barley for the Signet. There’s a faux wax seal at the bottom, and at the top, an image of the heraldic arms that were granted to the company in 1938.I wound up making bloody Mary Queen of Scots with the rest, where it truly doesn’t matter what scotch you use and for this use, Ballentine’s is actually better than vodka. Another great sipping Scotch whisky that’s less known but rapidly gaining popularity is Sam Heughan’s Sassenach. You’ll find a few Irish and Japanese whiskeys on our list because they follow similar production processes, but check our round-up of the best American whiskeys and bourbons or the best Irish whiskeys if you want other flavors. The modernity of Japanese whisky mixed with the smoothness of American bourbons and the heritage of Scotch whisky.
