Today the largest AIO models feature 420mm radiators and one of them is the latest Liquid Freezer II A-RGB by ARCTIC which is also what today's review is all about. Generally, the higher the static pressure of fans, the better the cooling performance of the radiator. They mostly exist for system integrators or for special SFF PCs that don’t have the physical space for a tower of any kind. As a further mark of recognition, the Liquid Freezer II series was awarded the “European Hardware Award 2022” for the best CPU water cooler.
The fan is PWM-controlled and can cool your voltage converters and the socket area almost inaudibly by up to 15 °C especially in overclocking scenarios, with insufficient VRM cooling or in cases with low airflow, and thus allows continuous high load. Since the 420 is newer to the lineup, and our sample is very new, it has all the later Freezer II revisions baked right into it and its accessories. Unlike most all-in-one liquid cooling manufacturers, we rely on 38 mm thick radiators with a high fin density. With the radiator fans blowing and the VRM fan off, measured on the other side of that solid VRM heatsink, FPM predictably drops to 64-66.Our next chart will be of the VRM fan performance, but we’ll start with the one everyone is used to. The Liquid Freezer II 420 A-RGB model is the last one released by ARCTIC (the liquid freezer II A-RGB line includes 240/280/360/420mm models) and as expected it features an 38mm thick fan (as with all the other members of that line) and three 140mm P14 fans (PWM fluid-dynamic bearing with A-RGB lighting) with integrated cable management (routing).

To still allow for optimal heat dissipation, we have developed a special mounting kit for the Liquid Freezer II that allows the cold plate to be placed directly over the hotspot of the CPU. What we’re saying is that this test will create an objective hierarchy, but that in all reality, a couple degrees here-and-there from the cooler won’t really matter much when considering the VRM is unlikely to melt itself in the majority of instances. With quad-core CPUs back then these were actually somewhat sufficient but as AMD and Intel added more cores into their CPUs AIO manufacturers slowly introduced larger (140/240/280/360mm) and improved models to keep up with the rather significant increase in temperatures.The 3800X was intended to be our standardized platform before we got to these higher-end coolers, the charts level-off a bit with the big air coolers. The Liquid Freezer II series has high compatibility and is compatible with AMD’s popular AM4 and upcoming AM5 sockets, as well as with modern Intel sockets like Alder Lake.
