About this deal

M. Logan is famed for his seriously addictive storytelling and gritty narratives that have audiences hooked worldwide, and 29 Seconds is no exception. THE CATCH, about a father convinced his daughter is about to marry a man with terrible secrets, has also been made into a TV drama for Channel 5 starring Jason Watkins, Poppy Gilbert, Aneurin Barnard and Cathy Belton (screened Jan-Feb 2023, available on My5). I really enjoy thrillers that keep you guessing, that you can't put down and this book did not disappoint! He is the perfect villain—manipulative, seductive, and diabolical enough that I fell into the trap over and over thinking he might have a limit to his behavior.

In action thrillers like this, the protagonist can be as unconventional as the author likes, which means this is an area where the genre is free to grow and develop.I quickly became totally engrossed in this story that tackles the never-ending issue of sexual harassment of employees in the workplace by an influential superior. It’s bad, so bad, the more I read the more pissed I was at it; at first I thought it’ll be a 3 star book with the eh feeling following it, however it just went downhill and here we are with me wishing I could just give it a minus 1.

It's really easy to root for Sarah, as our bad guy stands in stark contrast to her, even if you question a few of her decisions. However, her hopes of promotion to a permanent position are dashed when her Head of Department, Professor Alan Hawthorne tells her she will have to remain at the same level on a short term contract for another year and any chance of future promotion will depend on how she treats him. I mean yeah, pretty much every one hated him but it’s too smooth and this book is a lot of things except that. Many thanks to Netgalley, Bonnier Zaffre and the author for the opportunity of reading an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Overall the story proceeds at a somewhat plodding pace until a couple of corkscrew moments that take the story in a new direction. By way of a twisted, tightly woven plot line, the author explores morals and facing the consequences of ones actions. The novel runs out of steam and becomes somewhat repetitive into the close and the last third limps along only for an out of character denouement to usher in a very abrupt and unconvincing resolution, doing a disservice to readers. good deed rescuing a young vulnerable and troubled girl, forces Sarah into the clutches of a powerful and dangerous man, the girl’s father.

His novel The Holiday was a Richard and Judy Book Club pick and became a Sunday Times bestseller in paperback. Tim’s thrillers have sold more than two million copies in the UK and are published in translation in 22 other countries including Italy, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, France, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Greece, South Korea, Romania and the Netherlands. There is always a bit of doubt that an authors follow up book to a brilliant debut will not maintain that brilliance, sometimes it doesn’t. She gets top marks from her students, has a steady publication record, has helped launch a new program, and has even found leads for grant funding for their department. Working together with the extremely talented Sara Collins and our producing partners Elizabeth Kesses and Tomorrow Studios to adapt this thrilling piece of storytelling is incredibly exciting, and we look forward to bringing this development project to MIPCOM.He does disappear and she’s drowning in guilt, if that isn’t enough someone sends her a message saying they know what she’s done and that they are coming to her house. I've never encountered the threat of sexual abuse in the way that the main character Sarah encounters it but I have to say I've never read a book that made me feel so violated and threatened, on Sarah's behalf. When I saw that TM Logan had released another book (currently only in the UK), I knew that I needed a chance to read this new title. Sarah is a professor who is trying to earn a permanent position in a department controlled by a serial sexual harasser.
